am I over thinking this....tv wall mount

My question now concerns mounting the actual mount to the board. I will mount the board level to the top and bottom of the opening, for example 10 inches down from the top of the opening on each side(rather than placing a level on the board). When I attach the mount to the board, my intention was to use a square to make the mount perpendicular to the board. No level involved. Will this give me a level installation? Since you can't always get your TT perfectly level, it seems to make sense to me to do it this way. In other words, if I use a level to install the entire unit(back board, and mount)and the TT is not level to start with, the install won't be level, right? The reason I am questioning all this is since I will be drilling holes, I really want to get it right the first time. TIA for your assistance.

does the mount allow for slight adjustments (mounting holes slotted or in an oval shape)? Id get it close then when you know your TT is level do the final adj/snug up the hardware.

yes, the top hole is somewhat adjustable. so do I do the original install as square to the recessed area, or level to how TT is setting?

I only purchase mounts that pull out from the wall and allow the TV to swivel left and right easily. You can also tilt it up and down. It's easy, but it requires some screwing and unscrewing. It's not as easy as just pulling on the thing like swiveling it left and right.

With that said, it also gives me the option to tilt my TV if it goes of level.

if you know your mounting surface (plywood backer board or whatever) is square just mount it up with equal measurements off where the celing meets the wall or sides etc inside the TT. this way you will know its pretty close to level as far as inside the trailer is concerned then do your final adjustments when all is level. BTW, some nice weather going on this way the last several days..

I was checking the temps there earlier this am. wish i was there, but it is in the 70's here to. course the TT is there! thinking bout coming down next weekend. 10 day forcast has it in mid 60's.

Mounting it using a square will work fine. Show us the pics when you are done with it.

I would use a square rather than a level for the reasons you stated. To determine the best vertical location for the mount, cut a piece of cardboard the size of your TV. Screw the cardboard to the mount as if it were the TV (the "combo"). Now use the combo as a guide to locate your vertical location (using your square, you'll be able to get your horizontal line centered and the combo will give you an idea as to how high or low you place the mount). One thing to note if you use the combo; since the TV is heavier than the cardboard, when you mount the TV, the mounting arm will sag a bit due to the weight. Depending upon the weight of the TV, if you find the "perfect" spot with the combo, you might want to move it up 1/2" to 1" in height to factor in the sag. Good luck.

Might I suggest going to HD or Menard's and buy a inclinometer- they're really cheap. Just in case you don't know what that is it is a type of level with a round dial an a free floating pointer that will move 360 deg. attached to the round dial are two flat surfaces perpendicular to one another . One usually has a groove in it and the other is magnetic. Any flat surface or line it is place d against and the pointer will tell you in degrees how far you are off level. With that reference in mind, install your whatever, parallel and to the same set degree offset
