Anyone installed LED strip on canopy
I'd like to install an LED light strip on my canopy rail like on the new Jayco. I want to cleanly install it with out any exposed wiring. Anyone done this or have advice.

Not sure how to link to a thread, but I'll give it a chance the old fashion way...

I think this is what you are trying to do.

I bought mine from Amazon and they are still working great 1 year later. Make sure you buy the ones that say "waterproof". If you pinch the ends, they do open, so I added silicone to complete seal the ends. I also went the entire length of my trailer and like the look much better than just under the awning.

Well I broke down and bought a set from EBay today. Supposed to arrive on Wednesday. Maybe we will have enough good weather to install. Now to decide whether to put under the awning or attach to the awning . . . .decisions . . . .decisions

Everything I have read tells me it is not recommended to attach these to the awning or awning tube. The pressure on them when they are rolled up will distort them.

Manual awning or a power one? On my power awning I just route it along the power cable for the roller motor.. BUT I would suggest you keep it loose so you can remove it for travel as the controller unit is at the end .

Thanks skidoorider, I had pretty much decided to install under the awning. That way I can use them without extending the awning or only partially extending the awning . . . heck I could even leave them on traveling down the highway . . .

I would recommend under the awning and not on the awning. Not only can you use them without rolling the awning out, but the awning still holds a lot of water when rolled up and you run the chance of the light strip holding water as we'll in the rolled up position.

I've spotted a few of these on Amazon and I'm sure I will be ordering one shortly. It will be a while before it's warm enough here in Wisconsin to install them anyways !!

I ordered a set through Amazon along with 3M trim tape. Should be here this Saturday. These should be a cool addition to our trailer.

For those of you mounting LED strip below the awning, did you mount the lights parallel to the trailer side (lights shining outward) or perpendicular to the trailer side (lights shining downward)?

Do it under the awning. My first strip turned white and eventually lights started to short out as a result of being stored for long periods of time with dampness. The strip under the awning performed flawlessly and is still going strong. You will need better 2 sided tape to secure these from amazon as the provided adhesive is not the greatest.

Perpendicular... I taped them up temporarily both ways to see what I liked best, and shinning down was better for us because it didn't blind you when you where sitting out front and could also be used when the awning is closed. I mounted it just under the guter and went the entire length of the trailer. Very happy with our installation.

Do they have to be hard wired into the trailer or can they be simply plugged in to the outside power supply? I am useless with wiring. Looking for a simple way.
