Atwood Water Heater Will Not Light on Propane
I noticed the DSI FLT light on next to the water heater switch. I checked the water heater and no flame. I tried it again and it will light for a second with a very weak flame then goes out. Propane tank is full and all other propane systems working fine; heater, stove, frig. Any ideas?

Check the burner tube - the silver colored tube 1/2 inch in diameter or so that connects to the burner; it could be stopped up with spider webs or an insect nest. If not that, then likely the orifice is stopped up. Caution: do not insert a wire into the orifice to unstop it, it will damage the orifice and perhaps render it unusable. There is an Atwood Water Heater Manual in PDF form hosted on this site, under "Manuals" on the blue banner near the top of the screen.

Just checked tube it is clear, guessing it is orifice possibly

Here is a troubleshooting link. I says to try alcohol to clean the orifice. Good luck......

Sealant isn't really needed there and you would take a chance on getting some in the orifice.

Atwood water heater
My Atwood uses a thermocouple (I think that's the correct term) that ignites the pilot light. When initiating (read lighting) the whole rig, one must hold the flame on the "thermocouple" for about 30 seconds - NOT just remove lighter when the flame appears. This heats up the thermocouple so it REMAINS strongly lighted, thereby permitting it to light the pilot light as an internal water heater thermostat calls for more heat. NOTE: more than 30 seconds may be needed when initially lighting in very cold (<30 degrees outside temp). After you light the thermocouple (I really hope that term's correct!) and hold on it for recommended time, remove the flame; the thermocouple should remain lit and the pilot light should light off the propane - making a "roaring" sound. If that occurs, you've done it correctly, and the water should begin heating. I check the pilot light a couple times a day to insure it's still lit. Hope this diatribe helps.

Jeff, his water heater has DSI-direct spark ignition. No pilot light.

Turns out there was a kink in the gas line . After trying everything else the technician pulled the hot water heater and found the kink. Works like a champ now.
