Awning "thump"

As I extend the awning from fully closed, about 2 seconds into extension there is a loud "thump" sound and the front arm seems to jerk outward. Doesn't seem to hurt anything and it's not an issue when retracting. Just was wondering if anyone else has heard/seen the same?

Thanks

Dave

Mine does the same DaveT. Happens to be the arm closet to the front of the RV.

Mine does exactly the same thing. Dealership said it is not an issue. I keep and eye on it now as I am extending the awning. I usually pause it right before it pops. I haven't noticed any ill effects on the arms.

Mine has done this for the past two seasons, I tried to see if there was an adjustment on the strut but there is not. I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

Mine does the same thing too. Front arm pops out after a second or two of extension. I think it's the gas strut getting stuck and then finally bangs into motion. I've tried putting some lubricant on the gas strut arm and that seems to help for a few cycles. It's done it since new. I was going to post and ask the same thing you did - so thanks! Glad it's more common than I thought.

Same, front arm as well. Not an issue that I am aware of.

Mine does that too. I usually just reach out the door and help in unroll for one pull and it's ok.
Seems like the rolled fabric resists the struts outer force.
I have learned how to overcome it and it's no longer a concern.
Could be the strut is getting weak.

Mine does that also.........seems like the track it slides in down the side of trailer is making it do that. Thinking I will try to wax there and see if it slides easier.

Wow

Well, seems common enough and no one's having serious issues. That's good. Thanks all for the confirmation. If anyone finds a cure please post back.

Mine doesn't, but it practically brand new. Just got the trailer in June, and have been able to take it out 1 time. I do open and close it at home, especially after a rain just to dry it out.

My awning is different from most of you I believe. Mine is a Solera by Lippert. It also has the exterior speakers in the ends of the awning.

Can one side of your awning be adjusted lower to keep water from pooling. During the dealer walk through they lowered my rear awning arm for that reason and to show me the feature. Mine doesn't pop but sometimes the front arm doesn't seat in the housing connected to the RV like it should. Im sure I have a completely different system but just making an observation.

I guess it's unanimous! Mine just recently started doing this. I haven't had a chance to even look at it but now I guess I don't even have to...

You should be able to pull down on the awning arm mechanism then tighten the knob to hold it in place.
