Battery dead!

Hi -
new to TT and probably my fault here. my interstate battery does not seem to pick up charge. had it on hookup to my garage for 3 days now. if i take it off the grid and test with lights, it briefly lights and goes off. no other power/lights work. ok when connected back to garage

not sure if using the power jack to level when off the grid caused the battery to discharge. would i need to replace battery or is this recoverable? also have read re filling battery with water - do i have to remove the terminals when filling?

Disconnect charger and load before filling cells with ' distiller water only!'

When you say, hooked up to garage. Do you mean a stand alone charger, or trailer plugged in to house ?

You may may want to ensure you have solid charge before assuming battery is gone. A visit to autozone ( or other ) can test battery for capacity to assume charge as well

yes you are correct - plugged into my house outlet (15amp step down used). i was told by dealer that this would charge the battery.
understand re capacity to assume charge - i will take this in to autoshop tomorrow.

Check all fuses in converter and circuit breakers in trailer and Inline fuse at point of battery connection?

Did you disconnect and reconnect battery at any point ?

no - i did not disconnect battery.

brought my jayco home for first time and used the power tongue jack to level when not connected to house electricity or truck - not sure if this caused the battery to discharge

fuses were shown to me as below the fridge - is the converter fuse there as well?

If you found the fuses / breakers - you found the converter. If you fully discharged the battery - I would take it to be tested and properly charged.

If you have been removing the battery, it's possible you either shorted out the battery leads and blew the + lead fuse (usually near the battery compartment)....or you accidentally hooked the battery up backwards and blew the reverse polarity fuse located in the converter. Check all your fuses and circuit breakers

One last thought. Check to make sure the TT dealer hooked your battery up correctly. The negative terminal goes to the TT frame. Positive terminal goes to the 30 amp inline fuse.

thanks to everyone with the help. Turned out that it was a loose connection. water and fuses were good. charging was fine once i discovered that the connections were loose!
getting set for my first TT trip this weekend!

I was having the same problem and found that the 30amp inline fuse at the battery was blown. This has happened twice now so I bought 20 of them to keep in the TT. I'm glad you found your problem, but the 30amp fuse could be something to look at in the future if the same problem comes up.
