Battery disconnect
Hi all!
Had a quick question regarding the battery disconnect and battery drain rates. I parked the TT without power for a few days at the house and turned the battery disconnect on and verified that the lights didn't work inside once I did it. After about 3 days, the batteries were drained low. I only used the interior lights intermittently for about 15 minutes. Is this normal? I'm thinking that it is not and something is still draining the battery. Any likely culprits? It is my understanding that power is only sent to the jack (which i haven't used) outside of the battery disconnect when it is turned off.

When the battery disconnect is turned on there is a connection between converter and battery. Battery disconnect off; Battery is totally disconnected from everything. (Unless something parallel is hooked up). One side of the battery disconnect should be directly on the battery pole (nothing else) and the other side of the battery disconnect you can connect whatever is there. When disconnected there should be no drain.

My disconnect was factory installed. It is built into the front cap, next to the propane tanks. The manual says that the converter will still charge the batteries with the disconnect on, which it appears to be doing now (solid green light). There has got to be something still pulling with the disconnect on to drain two batteries so fast...

You need a electrical schematic of your coach. You could also call customer service and ask about it.

The battery disconnect should fully disconnect the battery. You should not be able to charge or discharge the battery.
With the Disconnect engage your battery should last months before it needs to be recharged.
I'd contact Jayco with your VIN number and ask for the electrical schematic.

If it is a factory disconnect switch, located in one of the holds, I suspect the only things not tied to the disconnect is the tongue jack and the electric brakes. People have had issues with the pull pin for the emergency brake getting disconnected (aka kids), once if I recall correctly someone pulled the pin and placed it in the TT, as they did not want to leave the red cord outside.

I don't think that is normal. I have left the camper for a month and batter is reading nearly full with the disconnect switch.

Can you see where the battery cable goes into the cap? Is there access to the disconnect switch terminals? Which side is the disconnect switch wired to? Positive or negative? Where is the main 30amp fuse (usually by the batteries)?
I know you said the trailer lights were off, what about the CO Alarm, radio light. How many wires are directly connected to each of the battery terminals? There should only be one cable on the Negative terminal and that should be going directly to the frame. The Positive terminal should have the wire for the main 12VDC connection for the TT. Also, it should have the Break-away switch and the tongue jack (fused) on it. If there is anything else, I would be tracing it out to see where it goes.
Don
Do you have a Volt/Ohm meter with the ability to measure Amps (usually 10 amp max)?

No... The converter keeps charging the batteries while the switch is off and shuts off the 12v accessories.

Does your electric jack have a light? Maybe you accidentally left it on.

Did you check the emergency brake strap yet? That was my first thought as well.
But I could see the factory not disconnecting the CO and propane alarms for liability. They could be draining still.

Hey Don-
It seems like I need to do a little more research to find out what is actually going on. We spent a night in the camper this weekend and I checked out the 12v system a bit. From my basic knowledge, it looks like everything from the tongue is hooked up correctly. My Voltmeter crapped out, so I am going to buy one this week. I am now leaning towards the possibility that the batteries are just not charging. I've had the TT plugged in for a few days and the green light on the converter has gone from solid green indicating deep charge to flashing indicating almost full. When I turn off shore power, lights go very dim and CO alarm chirps. I am thinking that the small amount of battery use since I picked it up in early Feb has finally caught up with the batteries since they were not charging unless the connection is to the batteries is just bad. I'll check if the batteries are indeed dead, that would seem to narrow it down a bit.

I'm not sure if these pics indicate it, but if not, can you tell me where to find the info?
Thanks!!!!

Well.....This is uh, a bit embarrassing. Thank you all for the advice. I have figured out the problem. I tightened the connections to the battery and all seems to be working as it should now. I swore I already did that, but I guess not. Thanks for the input, I'll try to cover the basics next time!
