Best gadget I hoped never to use.

Why carry an extra bottle jack or hydraulic jack? Won't the jack for your tow vehicle work in a pinch?
I still need to test mine to make sure

Where do you put the jack, my 4 tons even extended to the max seem to me that i will need a gazillion of block !

Are you going under the axle tube, on the frame near the leaf spring shakles or ? Do you think that lynx leveler can be use under the jack ? Thanks

The jack needs to be under the axle, close to the bad tire, or you will be pumping that thing for your entire life.

Bottle jacks are nice, however my axles never seem to have a place that I feel safe with the jack not flipping out from under the RV. Scissor jacks seem to stay well even if the ground isn't totally level, but take more effort that I feel like putting into this process.

Blocks you can run the good tire up on are really about the safest and easiest way on the side of the road. I have had to use the tongue jack to get a front trailer tire off the ground even with blocks, but only because I ran out of leveler blocks. I care 20 now, so I don't expect to repeat that.

I bought a little bottle jack just in case this happened to me but I'm thinking the jack may not have enough lift to accomplish the job. How much does the trailer need to be raised to get a tire off and back on?

My truck jack worked, but only with a block under it. The last flat that I had was a double. Both tires on one side. Changed the first with the bottle jack (and a block). Then drove the fresh tire up on the gadget, and changed the second tire.

I had 3 out of 4 trailer tires blow out on one trip. OK - true confession time - they were 10 years old and had spent a lot of time in the sun. We were also driving 70 through texas in 105 heat :-(.
But basically I changed 3 tires on the side of an expressway in scorching heat.
I used a small scissor jack that my dad had when he passed away years ago. I think he said it came from his 1934 Ford Coupe. It worked great. But the one thing I did start carrying is this:

It has all the power of a full Lug Wrench but folds up very nicely! And it's only $12.

However - I then found an even better tool for changing tires on my RV or my tow vehicle. It's my GoodSam Platinum Roadside Assistance Card. LOL I'm gettin too old to change tires.

Just make sure you dont need them on a Holiday weekend. Good Sam roadside service is not available on holiday weekends, which is totally unacceptable.

I admit I haven't tried to use the service on a Holiday - but I just went back and read the entire contract, even did a few keyword searches on the contract trying to find any date/time exclusion on service. All it says is 24hr/365.

I assume you had this problem? Were you in a remote area? Did you file for your Trip Interruption coverage after you had to wait for help?

I know that all road service companies subcontract their actual service. And those companies don't have people EVERYWHERE - so they call other garages where they don't have coverage. I suppose it's possible you were somewhere that they couldn't find anybody who would come out on a holiday?

I had Allstate road service for years - they are, according to several sources, the top road service in the U.S. On at least 2 occasions Allstate left me stranded. I called once in South Georgia with a broken radiator hose. After being on the phone for 30 minutes the operator said they wouldn't be able to help me and that I should call "the service provider of my choice" and then file for reimbursement. I proceeded to tell her that if I knew a garage to call in the middle of south Georgia I wouldn't need them!
I dropped Allstate at that point, not because they couldn't help but because of the arrogant and rude manner of the person on the phone.
I've been quite happy with GoodSam Roadside - they seem as good as any of the services out there.

No not me but a person on the Jayco Travel Trailer Club facebook site had an issue with Good Sam roadside service over last Easter weekend. They tried to get service with a tire failure and Good Sam told them they couldnt help due to it being a holiday weekend. Another member complained that they had the same thing happen to them over a 4th of July weekend.

I do the same thing, I'm pretty sure that the manual says not to overload one of the axles by doing this. I already have a bottle jack and wheels chocks for trailer maintenance, so I just bring them along in the bed of my truck.

So, Travelbug422's pic was not really clear to me. You just raise the non-flat tire on the same side as the flat, and the flat one comes up enough to change? 'Cause if we didn't have to carry a floor jack, it would save a lot of room and weight in the truck!

Nice, but it seems that it would not fit between tires if you need to raise the front axle. Best I can tell is that it wouldn't fit between my tandem axles. Do you just use it on the rear tire?

I have a White Hawk with the wide stance axels. I can place in front of the tire or behind the rear tire. Either I'll back up on it or pull up on it. Depends on the tire.
