Question Black or white?

What determines whether a trailer (specifically a 23RB) gets black exterior accents, or white exterior accents.

The picture below is my trailer which I am picking up tomorrow. It has white trim, white extended water spouts, white propane cover, and a white awning.

This link shows the exact same trailer, but with all of the above in black.

I thought perhaps it was the elite package, but I can't find anything to confirm that. It's not THAT big of a deal, but I think the black looks a lot 'richer' than the white. Had I been given the choice, I would have chosen black.

ETA: Also the pleather/leather couch...

We've got the elite with white accents. Honestly, I didn't even know there was a possibility for black accents.

Being in Arizona, I would not even consider a trailer with black. I expect you will be happy you have white in a few years when you see similar age trailers with broken down black accents.

In my opinion, the main reason why trailer companies are putting the dark paint and accents is to make the trailer degrade faster with age ...

I think Slinger nailed it, the black will fade quickly. You have a good looking trailer, congrats

I spoke to the factory regarding this. Basically it was for esthetics nothing else. Everyone is doing it.. Not a good reason in my mind, and, being in Az I said the life would be shorter and the black Propane cover actually will cause a potential hazard. When it's 115 outside and your propane tanks (which by law have to be a heat reflective color) are covered by a black cover it is not a stretch to hit 150 degrees or more. A temperature at which, because of pressures inside the tank at that temp, could cause the safety value to release propane. I told them I would have this discussion when we take the factory tour this spring.

Appears there is no "reason" to change mid stream in a model year. A point I made with the factory, especially when you tell no one. Offer it as an option, and make the change the next model year if you must.

So earlier 2015's were white and later 2015's were black?

If I remember correctly my 2015 was actually built in May 2014.

I saw this at the local dealer and really didn't care for the black trim at all.

Count yourself lucky that you ended up with the white trim. As a few have posted already the black is going to age a lot faster be too hot in the sun and personally I much prefer the white.
Congrats on your purchase.

I have seen most of black propane tank covers fade to gray within months.

We ordered ours in late 2014 and expected the white trim based on the model we looked at on the lot. To our surprise, we got one with black trim, and I love it. Contrary to what others are saying here, I think it looks great.

Other companies have been using blacks/grays for a while, and in my area I haven't noticed any fading.....or any exploding propane tanks in the heat of summer.

I know you mock "exploding tanks" but, they don't explode they vent propane when overheated, and yes, it does happen. That propane can, cause problems, including fires. Perhaps you have never been in 110 120 degree heat, a car will reach 150 degrees in minutes. It is an issue for parts of the country. Esthetics are one thing, but, proper applications of products is more important.

Not a matter of taste, matter of safety.

The aerolite in this picture is a 2015. The propane cover was black. It's been exposed to at least 6 months of Texas heat. What color is it now? It used to be black, but now it's gray.

Its not heat that changes the color... its the SUN. I imagine that if the trailer was covered or you used UV protectant the cover would still be black.

White, black, grey.....whatever. Wags999, however, has some good points living in AZ NM, etc. Mine's all white and I love it but right now; IMHO the black trim does look a little classier. Maybe not so much when it's grey or starts cracking. But enjoy what you have as the grass is not always greener.
Happy RVing,
Jeff

you are correct in that the UV causes problems, but, in many parts of the country covering a rig can also cause problems. If you have not lived where the sun is intense, with high temperatures then perhaps you do not understand the unique issues. Where it's no uncommon for vehicles to reach 150 160 degrees within minutes of being parked. Covering may protect from UV but, even with reflective covers, items will still reach temperatures unheard in most of the country. It's why you rarely see black vehicles sold here, white and light colors are much more practical.
Heat alone, will affect decals, and, propane tank safety.

The bigger issue is to make a change after people have purchased a rig with no notice. If a change is not mandated by things beyond the control of the mfg, (BK, fire etc) than changes should be either phased in as an option, or, make the change when model years change.
