Blow Dryer and 15a

Hi Everyone.
The DW and I do more dry camping than hook ups. Next spring my niece is getting married and we decided to take our rig and make a mini vacation out of it. DW biggest concern is blow drying her hair. We will be staying at a place with just 15a elect. I am not real savy with electricity so I dont want things tripping or shutting down, or late for wedding kind of stuff.

We have never tried to run a blow dryer when plugged into the house (15a).
My question is can it be done with everything else off? Should I bring my generator and just plug in for her hair dryer? Any advice is would be great.

Tom

PS Trying to find a place nearby with at least 30a. no luck yet

It could be.
Your converter uses a small amount depending on the condition of your batteries and the dc load. (mostly lights). You only have 15 amps per your post, so any thing besides the converter and one hair dryer will be pushing the capacity of the available current.
Make sure you know where the breaker that supplies that 15a is located because it will likely be tripped.

As long as every medium to large load (A/C, microwave, etc.) is off, the 5-10 minutes of hair dryer should be fine.

Depending on the adapter & extension cord to the house, longer run times may have to be avoided.

X2, just turn off other items while blow drying and you should be fine.

Do you park your TT at home, even for a short time while loading up? If so, plug in with a extension cord using a 15 amp outlet from the stick house, and give it a try.

Happy Camping

You could take an extension cord and run it straight to the shore power box then you only would trip that breaker vs. power via the camper.
