Breakway Switch

Is it advised to periodically test the breakaway switch by removing it and trying to advance the trailer? The owners manual is silent on this issue. I had a Fleetwood trailer before and as I think I remember, the owners manual advised an occasional test.

I've never run across anything about testing it periodically. It certainly wouldn't hurt anything for you to test it.

I have pulled them a couple of times on trailers that I was delivering.

Where do you guys hook it to? This is my 1st trailer that came with it. Thinking about putting a hook on it. Anybody done this?

They (whoever 'they' are) say it needs to be securely attached to something other than the hitch. Why? If the hitch breaks and stays with the trailer, the cord would not be pulled to set the brakes. Many do attach them to their hitches, however.

Mine is connected using a steel carabiner through a hole in a bracket (body or bumper, I don't recall) above my TT hitch.

I just replaced my cable after finding a "pinch" spot on it. I bought a Fastway cable that's coiled and has a carbineer on the end to clip to truck.

I pull the piece out (activate the brakes) every time I hitch/unhitch because I loop the cable through one of the holes for the safety chains.

That leaves it securely attached to the receiver.
(I'm rethinking where to loop the cable through now)
