Broken in to - Whitehawk

I went to pick up my Whitehawk 28DSBH from storage yesterday and arrived to find my front passenger side storage hatch wide open. Very frustrating - we keep it in a facility with cameras, gated key coded access and barbed wire fencing.

The good news - I don't believe the loser took anything. All our stuff appears to be in there and we didn't really have anything of value in the storage except our Outland firepit, which they didn't take. They also didn't try to get in to the living space.

The bad news - looking at how they got in, it appears the style of door/latch on the Whitehawk is useless from a security perspective. Yes the latches lock. However, if you look closely, there is a good 1/4" gap between the bottom of the hatch and the frame of the door. You can easily use a knife or a screw driver to simply lift the two latches (the wedged latches like you see on a regular door) up and the door is now wide open. It doesn't do any damage and in face didn't even leave a mark, but really there is zero security.

Anyone else experienced this? Any hacks to make it more challenging to get in?

I am torn - if I make it more difficult the odds of things getting damaged by someone who wants in are increased. If I leave it, I basically can't leave anything I care about in the storage. Or I just hope that this was a one-off and maybe I get lucky. The people who work there (and live on the premises) said this was an anomaly. They are reviewing the camera data to see what happened.

That's not all. That storage bin is probably keyed with the ubiquitous CH-751 key that everyone and his brother has. So there really is no security on our storage except against the casual opportunistic perp.

I don't really have a solution to offer, either.

Crap...never thought of that. My key for the storage also opens the door.

Maybe I'll get a big WELCOME sign and simply invite them in. lol!

If your key to the storage is the same as the door it's not the universal CH751 that everyone has. Starting in 2017 Jayco stopped using the CH751 key for the storage doors, at least on the JayFlights. With that said the storage doors are easy to pry open as you have found out.

I'd rather have them open a storage door than damage it because it would be more expensive to replace the door than whats in there. As already been stated, re-keying locks will only keep your storage yard nosy neighbors out but it'll be just as easy to pry it open.

Sorry this happened. It is always a drag to have our vulnerabilities exposed (on lots of levels). I have been reluctant to get too tight with the locks for the same reasons stated. We do what we can, and that's all we can do. I hope you can get your White Hawk hatch and door back to new soon (if damaged). At least no one was hurt. That's a blessing.

That's a positive change. I think. Thanks for sharing!

Ch751 or es201 universal storage keys

We are in the process of replacing all of our CH751 keyed locks on our 2017 Jayco Melbourne 24L. Here is a link (https://rvmusthaves.com/ch751-es201-rv-key-warning/) you can use to help with the process of changing out the locks. It is really quite simple. You can get new locks at a hardware store or order online through places like Amazon.com. Hope this helps.
