Carefree Fiesta Awning

The spring on the awning either broke or unwound while it was extended. What are my chances that it just unwound? Or is it most likely broke. I have not looked at it yet.

Thanks in advance

There's a good chance that the spring broke. I think I paid $400 to have mine replaced.

Manual Upgrade Kit

Amazon. Check out Carefree 85003 Manual Up Grade Kit. Converts from Spring to Manual Worm Gear. Only way to go. I saw on that had been converted. The awing locks in place where ever it stops. Am going to try to convert my electric awing to that.

That looks interesting. So if it locks in place do you know if you still need to use the upper bars? The ones that have the tab locks.

Awing Upgrade Kit

Smoothy, I can't answer that specifically, however, it is the worm gear that locks in place until you crank it up or down. The guy that showed me his would not go back to the springs. The guy that paid $400 to have his springs replaced might have been happier with this $135 upgrade kit. It is a DIY project so the labor is cheap.

Smoothy, I am interesting in knowing how it works out for you. I might need for you to take a measurement on the part that attaches to the end of the support arms.

Awng

Smoothy, have you replaced your springs with the Upgrade Kit? If so, how does it work for you.

I just completed it this afternoon. So the bottom line it was not that difficult to install. The right side spring is the one that was broke as I assumed so that was the one I replaced first. Removal was fairly easy as the spring had no tension. I had to drill all new holes (3) and use the self tapping screws that were supplied. I considered leaving the left side as is but decided to remove the spring and replace that one also. No real difference in the effort either way. Left side only had 2 screws and both had to be drilled. With the spring tension that the left side still had I probably could have used an assistant to keep it from rolling closed and supported when I removed it from the right arm but luckily I was able to use the strap as a tie down on my barn door to keep it from closing. Cranking effort is minimal. Did not count how many cranks were required to fully extend but probaly would like a lower ration. But then again it was one of the hottest days of the summer we had. All in all it was a good upgrade and I would recommend. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

You did mention you wanted something measured? Let me know and I will provide.

Smoothy, if you don't mind would you give me the inside measurement (width) of the cap that attaches to the arm of your awing. If this is not clear PM me please. Thanks!!!
