I am not sure where you live but where i am the temperatures never get extremely high. 80 degrees would be extreme. Usually cooler so i have never had a problem with the old red plastic containers expanding to any extreme amount.
I have used them for about 40 years.
I would not use one if the temps were hitting 100 or so.

Temperatures here have been known to officially reach 122° but on that particular trip, the temps were in the high nineties or low hundreds.

We will be going to Las Vegas in September so I think that it will be hot still but I think that we should be okay. I have been checking my truck out, I can go about 240 miles with the needle on 1/4 but I would prefer start looking for a gas station between 1/4 and 1/2 of tank.

I'm assuming that's 240 miles on 3/4 of a tank while towing, yes? I think the only size fuel tank on the RAM 2500 is 31gal so that's about the same as the 32gal extended range tank on my RAM 1500. I use 10mpg for planning purposes and want to fill up after using no more than about 24gal.
From Jackpot to Ely it's just over 200 miles so that leg of US 93 is not bad. There's not much after Ely till you roll into Vegas which is about 250 miles. Also, we took NV 318 from Ely to Crystal Springs where it joins US 93 again - it's a shorter, more direct route. I believe there are a couple of stations south of Crystal Springs so in your case I'd look to fill up at one of those to ensure you aren't running too low rolling into Vegas. I looked back at my fuel records for that trip - we averaged only 11.3 for the trip down which is a bit under the normal that we see on the the long trips of 12.5. We came back up I-15 through Utah and logged 12.3 average on the trip home.

You might check on the THIN LINE of gas containers... These are especially great for the off-road vehicles and with the various slots on them you can come up with all kinds of different mounting positions etc...

Yes, and thank you I got towing my 9,500 to 10,000 lbs TT here to Whidbey Island from Tacoma WA and got 9.1 miles mpg, which some are hills and I figure on the flat land I should get at least 10 mpg.
Thank you for the info so I can properly plan my trip to Vegas this September, my setup is in my signature with the MDS. I will be taken that router that you suggest.
