Caulking

Is it advisable to caulk around the exterior of the windows? I have a 95% moisture reading on the inside corner of my B/D window. I know that the windows have like a form type seal.

I would remove the window and inspect the seal before trying to cover up a leak with caulking. I haven't done it but it looks pretty straightforward.

Then you can choose to replace/reuse the existing seal or add caulking.

X2. Windows aren't that hard to remove. I'm sure there are videos online. I would recommend a fresh role of butyl tape before starting the work.

And after putting them back in then caulk them.

Is it necessary to caulk around the windows of the newer models? I thought the foam seals eliminated the need to caulk?

I think it depends on the window type. I believe you are correct for the frameless windows. But plenty of new trailers still use the standard frames.

The factory seal is pretty wimpy IMHO. Just light weight foam. I've re done a couple of windows and used butyl tape.

Caulking

This is Jayco's reply to my inquiry to them concerning caulking around windows. Now I have it from the "Horse's Mouth". My experience tells me that you can't over caulk a RV. I have been in a RV In Plant Repair Facility and 13 of the 15 units I saw stripped down was for repair of water damage. RV's leak.

"Yes, you should seal around the perimeter of your windows. Use a clear silicone that can be purchased at any RV dealer or local hardware store. A thin bead is all you need. Please contact me if you have any further questions."

The same answer should be applied to your kitchen and bath sink. There's water in that area every day, rain or shine.

I have a 2016 jay flight with aluminum siding and the older style framed slide windows. I don believe they were chalked from the factory. Just the foam seal.
I should silicone around the foam?

I would. What foam seal? Are you referring to Butyl tape?

Could it be butyl tape? Black seal or caulking?

It is a black foam seal. Jayco pushes out a J Flight in less than 10 hours. Quality control, I don't think so!!! There are a lot of chances of a pinched window seals or improperly installed seals. Concealed water damage is the major problem with RV's. Bought a Digital Moisture Meter and have found three areas of high moisture content. IMHO it is easier to caulk the devil out of your TT than to remove window frames etc., I use painters tape to keep things neat.
