caulking cracking

I have cracking to the sealant that surrounds the fridge compartment outside, what is the best way to deal with that? should I add more or peal and chip away and start fresh?

Welcome to JOF

If the cracking is minor in nature, one could add a little Dicor caulk (for horizontal surfaces) over the existing caulk. Since we are talking about an area that is at eye level, it may be best to remove the existing caulk, then run a fresh application around the frame..... for cosmetic reasons.

Anywhere you have cracking/compromised caulking on your roof, the easiest fix is to clean it and caulk over it with Dicor leveling sealant.

If you'd like to remove the old stuff first, it's easy to do. Best to go at it with a plastic putty knife so you minimize cutting risk to your roof material. There's no real need to remove it first, but if you have too much buildup of sealant, I've found that even 30 year old sealant is fairly easy to remove.

Or, you can remove it, and replace it with Eternabond tape for the ultimate repair. Just do a search on Eternabond tape and trailer roof and you'll get plenty of info.

Little more information please. Are we talking about the caulking around the roof vent or around the sidewall access panel?

If it is the roof vent. You have a few options. Clean up the caulk, and apply some Dicor over the existing caulking. Or do as I did and use eternabond. I wrapped up the side of the vent an inch or so, and covered the caulking completely. Now I never have to deal with it.

If it is the sidewall panel, I use ISO Quad. It is very sticky stuff. Tape off the area you do NOT want it. Apply a very small amount, and with a very wet/soapy finger, smooth out. If it sticks to your finger add more soap.

This sealant seems to mess everyone up, its OSI QUAD Sealant, available at Home Depot/Lowes in many colors, this is what Jayco uses everywhere but the roof.
