choosing WDH pulling 32bhdb with 2013 F250

Pretty much decided on the Equalalizer. What size spring bars to go with, 1200 or 1400?

I don't mean to hi-jack your thread, Volcampers, but I have a general question for everyone. Is there a risk of oversizing the spring bars?

I have 1200lb bars on my reese dual cam for towing my 32BHDS. I have not actually weighed my TT to find out the tongue weight but if I use the 12% - 15% rule I may ned to go up to 1400lb bars.
I have been told if you use too heavy bars you may get a stiffer ride.

I would recommend the 1,400lb rated spring bars for the heavy 2015 32BHDS. The probability of exceeding a loaded tongue weight of 1,200lb is high considering the TT's GVWR of 9,975lbs (based on a 13% to 15% recommend loaded tongue weight).

"If" the 32BHDS's loaded tongue weight is less then 1,200lbs, the 1,400lb rated springs bar will still be fine. In this case a properly adjusted WDH w/1,400lb rated spring bars isn't considered over-kill and won't effect TV/TT towing comfort.

In some cases with the lighter gross weight TT's one can "over-kill" the spring bar rating and possibly create a stiffer towing experience (i.e.; 600lb rating required, 1,200lb rating installed)......., and improper adjustment of the "over-kill" spring bars can amplify the stiff ride effect.

Also, improper adjustment of a correctly sized/rated WDH can produce a stiff ride experience as well.

To confirm proper WDH adjustment, a CAT scale visit will address proper weight distribution and limits.

I would recommend the 1400# bars. I have 1200# for my 32RLDS and they are at their limit. But I already had the hitch from my previous trailer, and they do the job. I'm taking a 2500 mile trip this summer, so I will get a better idea of whether I need to move up or not. The problem is that I'd have to buy a whole new hitch. The 1400# bars are not compatible with the 1200# hitch head, per the Equalizer website.

Depends on the trailer weight and tongue weight.
1200-1200TW & 12000GTW @10%
1400-1400TW & 14000GTW @10%

Stiffer bars may jeopardize ride and control. Not sure tho.

Thanks for the advice. Right now I have an Anderson WDH and I'm almost convinced it's not made for a long and heavy TT. It does fair when passed by tractor trailers but it's awful when the wind is gusting., blowing me all over the road and not a pleasant tow.
Do you all think the equalizer will take care of the above?

I towed a Keystone Outback 29BHS for 8 years with my Equalizer. The pressure wave ahead of semis as they passed me moved me a little, but trailer and truck move together and stay in line - no sway or wiggle. Nothing the truck couldn't handle and definitely not a white-knuckle experience.

I towed from Peoria, IL to Disney World and back, to the Black Hills in SD and back (lots of heavy crosswinds on I-90), to Michigan, Wisconsin, and all over Illinois, in rain, wind, and good weather too. Never a worry - and I had a few surprise situations, thanks to the idiots that share the roads with us.

There are other good hitches out there (Reese Dual Cam is good), but as far as I'm concerned, there are none better. And the Equalizer is simple. With a good electric tongue jack, I can raise the ball high enough to slide the spring bars on and off the L-brackets by hand. You can do it with a hand crank tongue jack, but it's a lot more work.

I highly recommend the Equalizer.

The Equal-i-zer brand WDH (and/or the Reese Straight Line WDH) IMO will out-perform the Anderson WDH considering the heavy loaded tongue weight of the TT in question.

Thanks, going to go with the Equalizer and will try to sale the Anderson. Any idea what a fair priced Anderson would go for, used probably 6-7 trips.
