City water hookup

I am going to be hooking up to city water for the first time. I purchase water pressure regulator. Is there anything else I need to know?

Highly recommend a Water Filter too. I use...

...not so much for taste, but to help keep sediment out of the TT plumbing. You can get these almost anywhere, Walmart has them if one if close by.

Filter? You betcha! Don't leave that item out.

In addition, when you you hookup put the regulator first, then the water filter, then the white water hose (do not use a typical garden hose), not the trailer yet. When you turn the water on let it run a couple of minutes to flush the spigot pipe, the filter and the hose. Then connect it to the camper. Do this EVERY time you set up.

Where could you be where there wouldn't be one close by?

That is for sure. We are 40 minutes from the nearest WalMart.

City water is a great convenience and I use it when available, but I still fill my tank before making the connection. Although its never happened to me, there are stories of pump failures and pipe breaks. Usually it's not necessary, but I like to know I have a supply of fresh water regardless of what happens.

I might add one more thing. Use the filter even when filling the fresh water tank. As clubhouse pointed out, you want to do everything possible to keep sediment out of the RV system. The valves do not tolerate it well at all.

I place the pressure regulator first on the water spigot then the water filter then my fresh water hose and finally my 90 degree elbow is last and attaches to my TT.

On my first outing I was attempting to connect the pressure regulator to the camp faucet and couldn't get a good connection. There was a significant leak through the threads. Missing washer? Nope, the washer has the strainer molded to it and the wire strainer was mashed out of shape. Closer investigation reveals a back flow preventer screwed onto the faucet and it had a part that extended and interfered with the press reg washer. Hadda mount it on the city water connection on the TT. I now have a "Y" that connects to the CG faucet and the press reg connects to the side headed for the TT. The other side of the "Y" is for the water supply to the "Sewer Solution".

x2 on the filter. While we found ours at a local Walmart (neighboring TT had a filter.. thought to myself, what a great idea..) we did see them for sale at many campground stores. Also used a regulator as well to avoid any system blowouts.

When we were in ****inson, TX last winter we were without city water for two days. A camper brought in this huge RV and when he backed into the space he decided to take out the water stand with him. Like OnTheGo I keep fresh water on board for just such occurances. True story.

Contrary to popular belief, not all campers live in metropolitan areas. Many of us live in the places that city folk travel long miles to visit. We like those places too, they just happen to be close by for us. One reason we live where we do is because there isn't a Walmart just down the road.

Not sure if you have Menards but I was there yesterday and noticed they have a small RV section and sell the filters, regulators and 90 degree fittings. I put the 90 degree fitting on the trailer first then the pressure regulator then the filter and attach the hose from there to the spigot. I've been told putting the pressure regulator at the spigot is not always the best idea because pressure can still build in the hose and blow out your pipes. Having the regulator at the trailer prevents that. I also use a "Y" adapter and back flow preventer at the spigot to attach both my white drinking hose and my garden hose.

Haha - I don't live that far from D!ckinson, TX so I have a pretty good idea of where you were.

For me, it's long white (water) hose, then my 5 micron filter, smaller section of white (water) hose, then the regulator and finally the 90 degree elbow going into the camper. With the filter ahead of the regulator I know there are no small particles that may get clogged into the regulator.

X2 - the only other piece I have in there is a Y-splitter in front of the regulator so I can have a separate spigot for bucket washing the bugs off my truck & trailer.
