Coleman digital thermostat purchase in Canada?
Does anyone know where to purchase this thermostat in Canada. I know many in the US are using amazon, price is $45. On Canadian amazon it ranges from $115-$200 CDN....!

I bought mine here last year. At the time Amazon USA didn't have any in stock.

They're out of Indiana. They do show shipping to Canada. The coleman model I have was $48.88 USD + $12.00 USD for shipping. I'm not sure what conversion rate and shipping costs are to Canada.

Going to try to walk carefully around this to not sound real political, but have to ask Why is everything so expensive in Canada? What would prevent you from having a friend or relative order this tstat in the US and then send it to you as a birthday gift? Or on your next trip to the lower 48, order it yourself and have it delivered to the CG where you are staying. Install the little booger [only takes 15 minutes] and get on with your travels. But the real question is back to the higher cost of goods up North. We are told that we are somehow doing a bad thing if we consider putting tarrifs or hi taxes on imported goods yet it seems all our neighbors are doing exactly that. Your thoughts please.

We have much higher taxes than you do to pay for our "free" health care. The socialists cry tax the dirty mean evil business's not realizing they past the added cost on to the consumer..

What happens if a "son" living in US buys and sends the tstat as a birthday present? Do you have to pay taxes on birthday gifts?
Why not plan in 3 or 4 days from your next trip south and knock out several mods and upgrades right there in the CG? If you bought and installed a new tstat while in the US, do you have to declare it when you re enter C?

Another similar product is di-cor self levelling sealant. Just hard to find in Canada....must have something to do with no Canadian distributors of the product.

That exchange rate is a killer, right now its $1.34 canadian to $1.00 US dollar. I found a few US based sellers on Ebay that ship to Canada, Tstat $66.99 usd, ship $15.78 use, total $76.77 usd. Cost to Canada $102.74

I'm still puzzled as to how they get away charging more than $10 for this 1990's era thermostat. No back light, non programmable, etc. I paid $30 for a Honeywell and $2.50 for a switch at Radio Shack. Sure, it took a few extra minutes to make it work, but why support Coleman when they refuse to innovate or provide reasonable value.

One will find that on a lot of the online shopping sites, if they have a US and CAN presence, there will often be a huge markup on the CA site from US sellers.
Number of reasons for that, but it is the seller's option to make it available outside of the US, so they make it worth their while (for all the extra hassle of shipping it across the border). The product is technically available to a larger market, and once in a while, someone might come along and actually buy it.
Not saying it is right, but that is how they play the game. In this case, you are better off finding another online retailer that will ship to Canada. It will probably not be as low as Amazon.com and free shipping... but it will probably be cheaper than the Amazon.ca product.
And yes, if you are a little more handy, you can make many off the shelf programmable thermostats work fine. Most are expecting to be powered with 24VAC, but will quite often work with +12VDC. You aren't switching baseboard heat here, but you do need to understand what all the wires do and why.
You may not want to use something with a huge backlight.... unless you want to mod it to switch it off. Just sucking more power and lighting up the room at night for nothing.

Last time we were at Niagra falls we talked with a number of neighbors in the NF state park CG. Two were there while a spouse received healthcare in a US hospital [another issue considering Canada's ???Free??? system] because they were on a long wait list in Canada. So my previous ?? was in regard to a working RV trip to the lower 48 in order to complete a few easy upgrades or mods at US prices and availability. The thought came to mind when my water pump failed while on vacation earlier this year. I ordered a replacement pump from Amazon and had it delivered to my CG, which I promptly installed. Since I have a good amount of downtime during our winter trips south, I ordered several other items [Spare cover, gorilla tape, replacement led bulbs to upgrade the OEM bulbs, etc]. I suspect all a Canadian would have to do is open a new account [untraceable back to your northern account] and buy at US prices.

PS.. Why worry about buying an RV thermostat? Just go to Wal-mart or some similar place and buy a house one... they are the same... just without the camping name. I got my programmable for about $40.00

Although the may work in some cases household thermostats operate on 24 volts. RV are 12 volt thermostats. You run the risk of inaccurate readings etc.

I will also add if you go to household electronic thermostat it has to be one that is powered by its own replaceable battery. A 24 volt thermostat that depends on drawing power from the furnace will not work in an RV

Another solution is to get a US mailbox forwarding service like www.myus.com or www.reship.com

Thanks for the advice but I bit the bullet and ordered through dealer, $129. Most things you can get in Canada are compatible but this is just one of those things...Thankfully they are few and far between.
