Question Connecting Extrension Cord To Awning Patio Lights

How do others run their extension cord out to thier patio lights hanging from the awning? I've been snaking the cord around the awning support on the side nearest the electrical plug on the string of lights but this is a pain to remove and put back up when I need to roll the awning in. Just wondered how others do it.

I simply lay the cord in the awning arm recess. I do not wrap it around the arm.
