Damaged water heater in my new 32IBTS

I was hoping for some advice from seasoned RVers. We bought a new 32IBTS back in April of this year from a dealer in Virginia. We drove from New York for a good deal on the unit. Just recently I was looking it over more carefully and noticed that my water heater looks like it was either a used unit, or was damaged along the edges at the factory. The drain plug even looks like it is very chewed up, and near the door hinges the metal and screws look rusty.

The trailer completion date according to the sticker was 10/7/2014. Do you think I have any recourse in contactng Jayco directly about this to possibly get a new water heater, or should I just let it be? The heater does work fine, it just looks really rough.

If it doesn't leak and it works properly, you probably don't have much to talk about. It is not part of the decor. On the other hand, the door that is starting to show rust will be replaced by the dealer when you go back for any other repairs. Had the same rust showing thru on our door. Was replaced without an issue.

Drain plug can get pretty chewed up on the outside with 1 removal, and if it was winterized or tested in 2014 upon dealier arrival, that may explain it

I wish you would of posted a few pictures. The drain plug is replaceable, the rust could be taken care of. Not sure of the damage near the edges.
I would contact Jayco directly and see what they say. If they need photos send them. If they send you a new water heater that would be great.

Definately contact Jayco. You have every right to complain. You paid probably close to $35-$40K for that thing and it has rust and a chewed up plug? Um no. Would you buy a $50K truck with rust around the fuel filler neck? Or rust showing through on the fender? I can bet not. It's alot of money and a huge investment and you deserve to have a BRAND NEW camper. JM2C.

I am on the other side of an opinion. Life is to short to stress over a plug that's 2 for 5$ on amazon. Any rust on a hinge is likely to reoccur with replacement of the same crummy material on a new one. Is it worth the hassle of bringing it to a local dealer that you didn't buy it from, leave it there for who knows how long while they service customers who did buy from them, for this problem alone ?

Oh it may have never been titled, but its not brand new, its almost a year old.

But absolutely if its worrisome for you, call Jayco. I wouldn't.

Jayco would probably be willing to assist in this -- but it wouldn't be worth my time to engage a dealer & jayco. I would fix it myself and buy a couple spare nylon plugs. I find those plugs getting pretty chewed up after 3 or 4 removals.
