Dewinterize and winterize.....

That is the question. How many of you in the camping spirit of fighting off this winters "cabin fever", plan on dewinterizing your camper and then have to winterize again for storage at the beginning of camping season this year. That what I'm trying to decide myself.....

I will probably do that.
I am heading out April 12th, but probably won't get to NM for a few days.
I'll de-winterize it at the 1st stop, but I'll take 1 gal of anti-freeze to winterize if I need to before getting to warm weather.

It only takes about 15 minutes and $3 worth of anti-freeze.

That's my plan.

We're headed down south next week and are planning on winterizing before trip back. Won't take long at all.

Last Spring this was not an issue here, I was dewinterized long before now. I still have not dewinterized yet this Spring which is unusual here in Eastern Va. Last Winter I dewinterized when we used the trailer in January during a warm spell, then I rewinterized after.

I do that at the start and the end of freezing weather. Once it really gets cold and stays cold I only use drains to pour water down and then pour antifreeze down the drains when heading home.

Like Crabman, here in Virginia I have not dewinterized yet, but the night temps are rising into the high 30s, so I will probably do it in a couple of weeks. First trip is scheduled for 25-28 April, so I'm in no hurry.

Well this is our first early spring time season with our TT and I'm trying to get a feel for procedures. The reason why I was hesitant on the whole de-winterizing and re-winterizing was the process of sanitizing the system which I had planned on doing. So, do y'all not sanitize after winterizing????

Just for the short term Winter use I did not sanitize the system, we drink bottled water. When I dewinterize the final time which will be soon I will sanitize the system even though we still will not drink the water.

We usually wait until no more chance of freezing, then dewinterize and sanitize lines with bleach. As far as using the system for showering, dishwashing, etc., I would still recommend sanitizing to make sure no bad bacteria could get on you or your eating utensils. JMHO

I will sanitize my water lines when I de-winterize my camper. Then add antifreeze or blow out my water lines when I come home.

Just thought of something. We will have full hookup on our first outing. We are leaving TT winterized for our trip to TN next week. Do I still need to sanitize fresh water tank since we have city hookup?

Yes you should still sanitize the entire water system. Bacteria can and will grow in your water system. The fresh water will have to go through the water system in your RV and can pick up bacteria on the way. Will it happen, probably not. Can it happen, yes. Are you willing to chance it?

X2 on Mikeauto2's question.....I never thought of having to sanitize the drinking water system.....odd because I'm somewhat of a germaphobe...... I'd appreciate any guidance on how to do it.

I have already de-winterized and used the trailer this year, as soon as I got home I had the trailer winterized again in about 10 minutes, I blow out all the lines and add some antifreeze only to the drain pipes.

It's so simple to winterize, with a couple of timeS under your belt it becomes quite easy

We are de-winterizing today to get ready for our trip. I plan on spring getting here before we get back so won't have to winterize again until fall.

There is a page that covers this in the owners manual. Basically you flush out the system first with fresh water and drain. Then add 1/4 cup bleach to every 15 gallons your system holds, including the water tank and hot water tanks. Fill the tanks with water and bleach and let sit at least several hours, preferably overnight. Drain system, add fresh water again to flush out any left over bleach and drain system one final time.
