Do I Really Need my Battery When on AC Power?

I have put my trailer permanently at my hunting club, where it might be subject to theft etc. It's connected to a 30 amp RV circuit. Is there any reason for why I could not take the (brand new) battery out and bring it home for safe keeping?

In other words, do I need the battery for any reason when using the trailer if I am hooked up to AC?

Thanks for your advice.

As long as you are not going down the road you do not need the battery. I strongly recommend marking the wire leads with which terminals they need to connect to. Also ensure the wire leads do not ground out.

Your 2008 model trailer probably does not have a smart mode converter/charger installed which may have boiled out your battery fluids already anyway. These single mode converter/chargers usually put out 13.6VDC which is right at the point of boiling out battery fluids over time. One should be doing battery inspections on a regular basic if this is what you have.

Batteries left on 13.6VDC charge for long periods of time may self destruct if the fluids get below the tops of the cores.

I have lost one of my batteries doing this in the past.
