Do you think dealers do this?
A few weeks ago I attended an open house weekend at my local dealer. I looked at many many travel trailers and liked the Jayco 27 DSRL the most of all I looked at. So I departed there to sleep on it and returned on Monday to work a deal on that particular TT, only to find out it now had a "sale pending". So I have been following this particular TT on their website and it has now been pending for over two weeks. I ended up ordering one exactly how I want it set up so not really a big deal, but it just made me wonder.......do you think the dealer wants to have that particular model and floor plan on the lot for people to see in an effort to secure additional orders on that model. My thinking is that if they were to sell that TT that there would be no way to interest potential buyers and thus sell that floor plan (knowing that it would be at least 8 or 10 weeks before they could acquire another due to order time)????? Surely they wouldn't allow a person over two weeks to finalize a deal would they. Just conversation.

I don't think it is all that unusual for a sale to be pending for a few weeks. Could be due to many reasons for example buyer wafting on financing. Could possibly waiting on parts or repairs that need to be done. Also could be waiting for a set time for buyer to pick it up.

Maybe maybe not. Ours has been on the lot for four weeks. I am sure people have been through it. Its paid for but the sway control had to be shipped from Indiana and we meanwhile went to Florida.
It has to have some sort of sign on it so I does not get sold again by mistake.

Took us 2 months to finalize the financing, after we put down the deposit. We were shopping many different banks for the best rate.

The dealer that we use has "sale pending" on there website on certain units for as much as a month. Im assuming that there is additional work to either the tv or the trailer going on. It is my observation that 2 weeks would be a short period for a pending sign.

Dealers will post "Sale Pending" on all the RV's they have on order for inventory or for a customer. Sale is pending even if you special ordered because you have not closed the deal. I do think dealers will control there inventory by posting "Sale Pending" so potential new customers have one to look at.

Well for us we went to dealer on a Saturday.
They had one 23RLSW on the lot we said we wanted it.
We went back the following Monday afternoon and took it home.

I don't think dealers would keep them on the lot any longer than necessary. They make their $ by moving the inventory.

Micron is right and the quicker the dealer moves the vehicle the quicker it can replaced. Dealer inventory is somewhat regulated by sales. As for financing You should know about the financing in 24 to 48 hours any longer the dealer is shopping your finance around for HIS best deal.

Hey Brad great question.
My name is Matt and I work for a dealer in Maryland, and actually it's quite opposite.
"Dealers" HATE ordering.
They always want you to take what they have on the lot.
They don't want to wait 8-12 weeks to get paid either.

A better way to put it might have been to say...
Dealers would prefer to sell inventory on their lot over ordering a made-to-order unit for a customer.

Yep Much better way to say it.
I am sure that no dealer would Hate ordering a unit for a customer if the customer wanted a unit that wasn't in stock.

Matt - which dealer do you work for? Are you in sales, parts, or service? Wondering cause I'm right up the street in Crofton.

When we bought our WH 20MRB last year, the dealer had five of them on their lot. When the found out Jayco was discontinuing that model, they ordered a bunch because they knew it was a popular floor plan. Most of the had the same coffee interior and options, except one.

We just bought a tent trailer. We signed the deal on a Sunday, but they didnt have a saturday pick up time for three more weeks, so our trailer was "deal pending" until then as we didnt sign the financing until the day of pick up.

Mine arrived at the dealership almost 2 months ago.. I'm not picking it up for another month or so.. Here in the north east, the campgrounds aren't even open for another month or so, so I think a lot of folks are in no hurry to pick up their rigs, although my dealer wants units paid in full within a certain amount of time. I was at the dealership today.. If they're marked pending, and have a deposit, my dealership won't let anyone go in it. Which is the correct thing to do.They were loaded with 'sale pending' inventory. They can't get them fast enough. Lack of inventory is costing some Jayco dealers sales. Some folks will look at other brands just because they're available 'now'.

Only being devil's advocate here. If a dealer sells a model that is high in demand, he will have to order more anyway, so, with that in mind........If I were a dealer, knowing that I will have to wait 8-10 weeks for one merely for my lot (not counting the ones I already have ordered for customers).....I would rather keep a "sample" on the lot for possible buyers to look at for future ordering which equals more sales. Reason being....I'm not sure that many buyers order TTs without first actually seeing one. Also, to a large dealer, what would be wrong with having an investment (Sample) sitting on the lot being used as a selling tool, knowing it will sell later.
Maybe I would be a poor dealer and lose my backside, but just thinking....

It took about 10 mins after my wife proclaimed " This is the one! I want it." for the dealer to put a SOLD sign in the window and lock it up. 24 hours later it was gone from their website. WE picked it up two weeks later and went camping.
