Do you use the under sink water filter

I did a quick search about this but wanted need more opinions. My under sink filter wasn't put on when I bought my trailer. It will be very difficult to get at the connections. I may even remove the drain pipes to make it easier to get at. The guy who gave me the tour of of the trailer told me that most people don't use them. I don't know if I believe him. I stay mainly in campgrounds with hook ups and never used one on my previous trailer. The dealer told me that they cost 50 dollars to replace every year and he didn't like the idea of water going through a potentially dirty filter. Is it worth the cost of putting in a RO system, a two stage filter, the no.3 filter that came with the trailer or no filter. The line is cross threaded where the filter goes and I had a small leak there today so I gotta deal with this. What say you?

We use ours. On our pop up it was pretty to change. On the skylark it is harder to get to. They do have filters that connect to the water line outside that I am thinking on getting next season.

We never did hook ours up. I looked under the kitchen sink and decided it would be more hassle than it was worth. We do use a blue torpedo inline filter (Walmart) and replace it every year. Ours is connected like this: water spigot -> pressure regulator -> blue water filter -> water hose -> trailer input.

We do the same as wiscampsin has said. Cheaper water filter (Wally World) and replace it every year or sooner if you RV a lot. It does a good job and much easier to change, etc.:hihi:

My TT came with one, have yet to hook it up (don't plan to). I do use an outside sediment filter, same style as the one I have tied into my home water system. For drinking water I always have a 2 1/2 gallon plastic container of spring water on hand.

We do the same as wiscampsin, hooked up in the same order.

I used it the first year, took it off to winterize, put on the straight tube and never bothered with the filter again. Seems like a waste of time to keep putting it on.

Thanks for the replys. Sounds like the the dealership guy was right. Other options are available that are both cheaper and probably just as effective. I wonder if Jayco came up with a better design that made it easier and cheaper to chage the cartridge, more people would use them?

Don attaches the $15 WM filter at the water spiggot. Have gone through two in the six-seven months we've used a water hook-up in a cg over the past (almost) two years. Just have to store it in a cold fridge when not in use.

I also use the Walmart blue filter, at the spigot just after the pressure regulator. In addition, I have a Brita filter attached to the kitchen tap for my drinking water.

Sometimes the blue filter doesn't seem to make the water drinkable, but when I switch on the Brita filter, it always tastes good. The Brita filter cost me about $20, and is supposed to be good for 100 gallons. It even has an LED indicator light to let you know when it's time for a filter changeout.

Same as Wiscampsin here, too. We'll cook and bathe with city water but use bottled when we run out of our own well water from home. Dogs drink same as we do. Silly, 'cause they eat pony poop here if it has grain in it and then wash it down with long drinks from puddles, ignoring their fresh water on the deck.

I like many don't use it either....to much trouble and too expensive too. Have used the walmart inline filter but it has a very short life span and could be dangerous if it filters out too much bad stuff and then concentrates it.
I went to Lowes and went to the water filter section and got a sales person to help me put together a conventional system using 2 GE filter houseings with one 15 micron filter (cheap, about 3 dollars) and one with a 5 micron filter. After each trip I drain both, replace the 15 micron filter and take the charcoal 5 micron out and let it dry for a few days in the cleaned sink. I've been doing this for about 10 years and it works well. Cost to do this is about 45 dollars to start with and a filter change when needed. (ps get the clear houseing for the 15 micron sediment filter if you stay for extended stays.)

We use a sediment filter and then a charcoal filter. After the charcoal filter we have a 3 filter plus a membrane reverse osmosis system. I bought it all at Home Depot or Lowes. It makes about a gallon of clean water per hour so after our tank is full we turn the water off for a few days and then turn it back on again. It takes a while to get the tanks full (80 gal)

We only use this system for long term camping.

I use a two stage filter than lives in my basement. The first stage is a 1 micron particulate filter and the second stage is charcoal. When in Florida this summer hosting the state park I was in was on the county water system and the particulate filter would get "real nasty" every 3 weeks. At my home base I only change this filter every 7-8 months. You never know what is in water that you don't KNOW.

When I bought my TT they installed it for me. First time out it leaked really badly all under the sink. It was flopping around. I took it back on my way home from the camp out and made them re-install it. It works great now!

Right now I use 5 gal bottled water... but I plan to add a reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink.. that is a winter camping project.

Ours did not come with an under-sink water filter but we as well us the inline hose filter and we recently purchased a brita water filter pitcher which has been great for our drinking water.

Our TT came with the filter installed and it leaked the first time out. It was a bear to get to the fittings with my big meaty hands so I opted to simply remove it and toss it out rather than have to maintain it. For me, the better bet is an in-line filter I can install right at the faucet. It's easier to maintain and replace and if there's a leak, it's outside the TT not inside.

We are new at this but we carry 2 2gal jugs in the fridge. When empty we fill from the supply tap at the camp. No plumbing taste and 2 gal is good for now. We've no filter at present and no plans, but the future, always in motion it is.
