Eagle 330RSTS A/c

Looking at a new Eagle 330RSTS. It has 1 15,000btu a/c unit. Its the ducted whisper quiet system. Indiana summers average 85-90 with high humidity. Is 1 ac enough? Seems a trailer that size would need 2. Dealer is telling me that a 2nd a/c unit can be added but will not hook into the duct system & would not be controlled by the thermostat.

2nd Factory air is controlled by a thermostat....if the dealer is adding the 2nd air then I don't know. 2nd air is not ducted into the trailer.....only into the bedroom. 2nd air is a nice option to have and if ordering a trailer I would have the factory install it and not a dealer.

In my opinion 1 a/c could be considered "enough". If you have the means I would have the 2nd a/c installed for a couple reasons. If one a/c ever fails, then you have a back up. Also when 90* in full sun can't keep up, then you have the second a/c. Also that a/c is in the rear of the unit. By time that cold ducted air gets to the bedroom you may not be too comfortable in bed.

Other than the money you will pay, I can't think of another reason to not have the 2nd a/c.

To run two a/c units at the same time, your trailer would need 50amp service. With 30amp, you can run one a/c unit at a time.

I had both of the trailers in my sig up at St. Louis last summer. AC in neither one would keep up when it got really hot. It got up to 85 in the trailer one day when the temp outside was 100. When I get a new trailer it will definitely have 2 AC units.

I have owned the 330RSTS for almost a year now and live here in the Houston area.

I bought the unit with two AC systems. The whisper quiet system (15K btU) and the 13.5K unit in the master bedroom.

Even with two units, your RV may struggle to keep the temperature at 75 degrees F during the height of the summer.

I agree with what others have said. The unit in the main living area does a good job most of the year but it can not handle a summer here by itself. And, as said before, the temp differential between the front and the back using only one unit is greater than one would probably find comfortable at night.

I have already burned up the unit in the master and I am having it replaced next week under warranty.

The load on them during the summer was just too much for them both. I cant imagine one unit working very well for very long in Southern summers.

I have a 338 RETS with a single 13.5k A/C and live in Florida. I have never had a problem with it keeping the camper cool during the summer. Albeit my spot is pretty shaded, I do wish that it had a second AC so that the one wouldn't work as hard. I will be installing the second in a month or two.

I have a 338RETS and am glad I have two 15K A/C units. Do we need both? I'm not sure but the 330 and 338 are both long beasts and that's a long distance to have one A/C push cold air, ducted or not.

With two you can set different temps in the bedroom vs the rest of the trailer if you want. I added digital thermostats and couldn't be happier having both units. I don't think I'd be happy with only one simply because of the air flow.

We have the 2017 Eagle 330RSTS and dual 15,000 btu A/C's as well as dual pane windows and I am glad we got the second A/C.

Yes, they ARE ducted together, and are controlled separately by each having their own thermostat.

We spent our first month with our new Eagle during the month of November down in SW Florida in full sun and the weather was Mid 80's and above with 70 degree dew points and although the living/kitchen A/C could keep it somewhat cool, it ran almost constantly. If you want the A/C's to cycle on and off more as well as have capacity to keep it at any comfort level you wish, get the second A/C.

The ONLY thing I wish Jayco had done differently is to make both A/C's "whisper quiet". The one in the living/kitchen area is mounted above the ceiling, the one in the bedroom is not and although not "jet plane" noisy, is noticeably louder than the living/kitchen area A/C.

One of my first mods was to swap out the analog thermostats for digital ones. Makes it MUCH easier to find that "set it and forget it" sweet spot.

I have a 2016 338rets and installed the second a/c unit myself ( it was prewired for it). It does hook up to the ductwork and the thermostat goes on the curved wall by the light switch. I really needed it when the temp got above 85 in the sun.

I found them at Markarios RV (best price at the time). Here are the model numbers.

Coleman Digital Wall Thermostat 8330-3462 Cool Only Thermostat Black $48.88 USD (Bedroom)

Coleman Digital Wall Thermostat 8330-3862 Heat/Cool Thermostat
Black $48.88 USD (Main area)

Yeah, they were easy enough because I took pictures of the wiring connections BEFORE I disconnected anything. It's not all a direct "same color" wiring, nor are all the wires in the LR the same gauge. Using the pictures as a guide, it wired right back up easily.

Here are pics of how my wiring ended up. Yours may be different but you can see where it could get confusing if you don't have pics before to guide you. I also plan on soldering the wires and shrink wrapping them when we get back home, but since they came wired with wire nuts from Jayco, I figure it should work ok for another month or so.

Also, in our 330RSTS, I had to really take care in where I re-mounted the bedroom thermostat. The digital ones are wider and I wanted to make sure that I got it as close to the closed door as possible to keep it from sticking out on the curved wall to the hallway. It was close.

When I installed mine I ordered the chill grill. Now with the grill closed the cold air blows through the trailer in addition to the rear unit ( twice as much air flow ) and at night I open the grill and only cool the bedroom shutting down the living room unit. Has worked great so far.

We have had our 330RETS for about 8 months. Living in Oklahoma you wouldn't think it would get as hot as Florida but it does. We took it to both Florida and Montana last year and never once did we use the bedroom AC. Now that the camping season has come upon us, we will see if we will need to use both. Happy 2017 camping season.
