Elec Awning
Has anyone tied down the awning braces with the webbed cinch straps for extra support in case of a wind burst?
In AZ we have these alot, especially in the Spring months.
Also, I bought a screen room and it came with those sturdy (uh huh) plastic tent pegs that DO NOT even come cloe to going thru the AZ baked ground.
How do you keep it from blowing away?

Kathie the Carefree elect awning room is too flimsy to withstand any wind... Mine got trashed a year ago... I am in the process of redoing it now.. with heavier gauge poles that go from the roof to the roller tube AND vertical stands from the roller tube to the ground.. for ground spikes I use large (very large) nails with washers on the heads to make then easier to pull out with a crowbar.

Seann,
I am wondering if the manual awning would have been better. There was a gust of wind out here last weekend and I thought for sure the awning was going to torque before I could get it rolled in!!

You can purchase the Carefree Direct Response unit for your electric awning to automatically retract should it get too gusty. Something to consider if you're worried.

I've had both, and I really dont think the manual.one seemed much more (if any more) sturdy than the electric ones. Sure, the older, flat pitch electric ones were heck in the rain, but the newer electric ones have adjustable pitch. Unless you are talking about dropping a support or two into "car port" mode.

YEP carport mode is the best way to go when you have a screen room..

Manual awnings have a quick release where the lower awning arm attaches to the trailer. This can then be move perpendicular to the awning tube and secured to the ground with stakes. The end result looks somewhat like a carport.

That would be sweet! We have the electric flat pitch awning and we don't really care for it.

When we were at the beach for Spring Break there were several Electric awnings that were tied down with straps and springs just like i used on my manual awning and worked just fine and the wind always blows at the Oregon Coast. Didnt have my straps with me so I didnt try my awning but will take my straps next time.
