Electric Hitch.......went south
Camped over Thanksgiving weekend. Pulled into our site.....went to use the electric hitch to uncouple from the truck....plunk went the jack hitch. Dropped out of the bottom of the shaft!!!! Not reall that big of a deal since it stayed hitched to the truck all week.
We wired the jack shaft up so we could drive home.
It would be nice to know how to "field fix" this while camping.
Dragging the RV to our local RV shop to get it off the truck today. So......should I go back to a manual crank or stick with the elec hitch??

Welcome to the forum. If it was me.....I would put on a new power tongue jack without batting an eye.

Is that the same thing as an electric power jack???

Its the same thing. Yea I'd look at another electric jack or go back to manual.

Ditto. If it can't be repaired of course.
I've had to crank jacks before, and I hope to never go back. Only thing I would do is get a higher capacity jack. Mine is 3500 lb capacity, but if I ever replace it, I'm going with 4500. I use it to lift the back of the truck to get the spring bars on my WDH, and while it handles it okay, I think I have it about maxed out...

Oh, and "field fix" would be to grab the jack out of your TV (assuming you don't have a separate jack for changing flats on the trailer) and securely block it up to safely lift the tongue off the truck. Be careful though, and be sure you have the trailer wheels securely blocked. Using a separate jack on the tongue can be very unstable, and the last thing you need is that trailer falling off the jack.

Camper Bob,
Cranking that bugger in AZ in July is a B****!! That is why I went with Elec. May need more power probably.

Yeah, no way I'm cranking that thing in the S. Texas heat. It's miserable enough just being outside in August, let alone doing manual labor. 
If I can help it, I will never own another manual tongue jack; power all the way! If they ever break, I'll always replace with power.
I just mentioned the TV jack as an emergency "field repair" that might get you out of a sticky situation if you were to experience a catastrophic failure of your power jack. You most certainly do not want to make that your SOP.

I had a brand new one fall out.. got replaced under warranty... No problems since..

Not sure what the best is, but I have had good results with Barker products.
