Electrical question

So I broke the camper out of winter storage today and as I was hooking up the battery, it arced. Since the arc I have no tongue jack power or and interior power. My question is, would this be connected to the main fuse/circuit panel on the floor or something totally different ?

how did you hook the battery up ... which color wire to which terminal

White and fused wire for tongue jack to the positive and the black wire to the negative

I think the black is positive on the tt I am not positive as mine is at my shop but if you hooked the black and white wires backwards I believe there is a fuse on the convertor that may have been blown check to see if the white or black wire goes to ground on the frame ,I believe the trailers unlike cars use wiring like the house where white is common or ground and black is hot

Yes there is two orange 40a fuses there of which in my camper are now blown. I guess I will be p-Touching those to clearly identify them in case I run into this again.

The wire that attaches to the frame of the trailer is the negative (usually white). The wire that runs back to the converter is the positive (usually black).

Jayco has the wiring NOT TO CODE. The white wire is GROUND and the BLACK is HOT.
I asked about this and the Jayco dealer where I brought my trailer agreed. he said he has 3 different specification books on Jayco electrical wiring. He also agreed that CODE standards are RED-HOT, BLACK-GROUND. But Jayco don't follow this.

well good at least you found them ... the fused connection for the tongue jack still goes to positive but with the black wire and the white to ground ... i tape mine together so its easier not to mistake and hook them up backwards .... but it happens a lot

well like i say it is more like house wiring than automotive ... house wiring is black hot , white common and green ground

Just about all TT and 5er manufactures use black for positive (just like 110 VAC hot) and white hor negative (just like 110 VAC neutral or common) on the 12 VDC systems.
As for code, it does not apply to 12 VDC systems.
The best way is to label all wires before disconnecting them. If you forget to label the wire, trace it back to where it goes. You will find the white wire is connected to the frame (ground).

Are you sure you didn't reverse the battery leads? If so, you have blown the reverse battery protection fuses in your converter.

A ohm meter is your friend when in doubt. Best to learn to use and carry one. Wireman

The reverse battery protection fuses can be replaced with indicator fuses. They are a little pricey but you can tell at a glance if that is the problem.

The automotive Industry follows the Red is hot and Black is ground.

The RV Industry follows the House Wiring standards where White is ground and any color (including BLACK) is HOT.

MY trailer has all white cables run everywhere and then you notice the HOT ones are the white cables with thin stripes of all different colors haha..

Then you add the BATTERY to the equation. Eventually you are going to find a BLACK cable on top of a WHITE cable. The old guys turn over in their graves when this happens... When you go buy a new JENSEN Car Radio that is used in alot of the RV's when you open the box you find RED and BLACK wires coming out of the radios. Red is hot and Black is ground in this case...

Then you promptly pull the Black and White 12V cable from the Trailer RV cabinet and twist the Radio RED wire to the Black wire and the Radio BLACK wire to the White wire.

Being a Ham Radio guy I have all kinds of wiring going everywhere. The next guy that gets my old trailer will surely have problems big times haha...

The best thing I would do is once you get it all working like it is suppose to around the batteries then I would red tape on the hot + connected wires/cables to indicate they go the positive terminal of the battery. I have used red fingernail polish as well...

I have seen some guys will take a photo of the battery cable positions and have the photo hanging near the battery in a plastic folder.

Then KARMA always wins in the end. Your battery fails and you buy an exact model only newer and start to install it. Right away you notice the DC terminals have been moved to the bottom haha... There goes your pictures haha...

Sometimes you have to look for the case stamped + and - Terminal markers on the batteries...

Roy, what I find odd is Onefastdaddy posted pics of his 2016 Eagle HT with the black + and white -. then Cdash post a pic of his 2016 Eagle HT with black AND white -, and RED+, then back to his converter is black +
This is from the same manufacturer and even the same brand.

My North Point is the standard black +, white -, as was all my previous 5vers.
