Extended Warranty Jayco 29bhs

Hello All,
I ordered a trailer that should be here in May. The dealer asked me if I wanted to purchase the 5 year extended warranty for a total of 7 years. My question is did anyone who bought a new Jayco get offered an option to extend their warranty as the 2 year manufacturer's warranty was about to expire?

I know this is fairly common with cars but I am not sure about campers. I think I would like to purchase the warranty but dont want to pay $900 now.

Thanks in advance

Most folks consider it's a waste of money. You are betting that something will go wrong. The company is betting it won't. They usually win. Same as extended warranty on a car.

I am curious if those extended warranties people have been talking about are from Jayco or the dealer? If they are from the dealer - no way, no how would I do it.

Read the fine print very carefully to see just what is covered and not covered. I did not get one on mine, and yes they keep offering you one well after the sale so the option of buying one is still there.

No extended factory warranty for me.

For cost of extended warranty, I'd rather re-invest into the repair and when repairing it, make the base construction BETTER then factory. For example, use Spray Foam (instead of water sucking fibreglass insulation), normal soft caulking (instead of factory dry fit) around the windows, install BETTER then factory power vents, etc. etc.

On all my trailers (prevous PU, previous TT and current TT), I've always won the financial odds (of using NO extended factory warranty). And when something did need repairing, I fixed it "much better" then factory. For example, I installed much lower cost & much better Media Server Player - compared to their over priced "moving parts" factory CD/DVD Player.

Hope this helps in your research....

I was offered one when buying our latest new TT. I declined. On our previous used TT we bought an extended warranty. We paid $1500.00 for a 4 year plan. Had two claims that would of cost me $250.00 without the warranty. I sold the TT in its second year of ownership and received $750.00 as a refund. So two repairs totaling $250.00 cost me $750. Also most appliances have their own warranty.

We passed on the extended warranty. They want too much for what is likely to go wrong.

I got the extended warranty but...here's the stipulation...the dealer threw in a perk in that if it hasn't been used after the 7 years then I get a full refund! That was the only way I was even entertaining the idea.

I was offered the same deal. I still declined. The dealers thinking is you will always find something wrong and bring it in for repair, then no refund.

I've refused EW offers on dozens if not hundreds of purchases, big and small, over the years (with the exception of vacuum cleaners) and can't think of a single regret. On the other hand, I now have, theoretically, thousands of dollars to apply to any out of warranty repair I may need in the future. On small items these "bargains" are often 25% of the sales price. Oh well, there's one born every minute. Mr.T

I just bought a 17z and they are asking for $1400 for 5 years with a refund at the end toward a new trailer. I just think it is too much and doesn't cover walls and roof.

What if you are full-timing and use your appliances every day? Is the extended warranty worth getting?

Thanks all for the input. I guess i will pass. I guarantee if something goes wrong for me it will not be covered in the fine print!

We just bought a used TT private party and it had 3 years left on the extended warranty. We are in the process of transfering the warranty to my name. Should I keep it since it was included, or should I cash out?? The camper was only used 5 times before we bought it and everything seems to be working out great!

I would say that depends on how much they will cash it out for...my gut tells me they probably dont give you that much refund so you might be better off keeping it.

Took it based on experience

We just got the seven year deal, really 5 year. We debated back and forth but my experience with ext warranty is based on the one I bought for my Harley. I utilized two times, for the same repair. We were stationed in Europe and the plan paid for itself on the first instance. I did research on the Interstate RV warranty and found the field slightly, ever so slightly, in favor based on experience. So we opted for it. Not pushing it or selling it but just giving some FYI.

I considered it but read it and it was pretty much worthless, so I kept the money. The shop guys at the dealer said it was worthless too! Verrrry limited!
