Fan in frig

Personally I feel like the inside fan is more beneficial because it helps keep even temps throughout the interior of the fridge. I think the outside fan is also worthwhile, but would do the inside first if I had to choose.

Does the ebay fan work with any TT fridge? More specifically the fridge in my 26BHS?

As long as you can get 12 volts to it, yes. Some of the older fridges has constant power to the internal light circuit. The new ones you have to run a thin wire down the drip tube. You can either run back to the load center or tap into the 12 going to the fridge circuit board. Most important thing is to have an inline fuse at the tap. No real need for a switch, you just unhook it from the fins.

It is really just a simple computer fan setup. You can actually get it for around $4, but the guy that sells them pre-wires it all up and adds the clip,etc. I figure for that and the great idea - he deserves $15.

I got my fan delivered this week. I will install it this weekend. We have a 5 day trip over Labor Day and I will see how much of a difference it makes.

I just installed mine and used it for a 2 day weekend and did not seem to make a huge difference. Unlike others I was not able to reduce the temperature setting on my fridge. I would guess, but don't know for 100% sure, that the temperature in my fridge was probably a bit even.

I will paste the link below to where I got mine, but be warned - it does take some install work on the newer Norcolds. Not bad, but I had to snake a very thin wire down the drain tube, around the fridge wiring and down to the fuse load center. Anyone who likes to tinker should have no trouble installing it.

Not sure it would save much on wear and tear, but as a side benefit it gets rids of most of the frost on the rear cooling fins.

I have this fan in a 6 cu ft Norcold. I does help, used it all last season, after being on all summer there was no ice on the fins. I had to run the power wire down the drain tube. It is worth the effort.
A better mod for me was adding a fan at the top outside vent. It pulled hot air from behind the fridge and exhausted it. This mod definitly helped the fridge in the hot Florida summerr. I tried a fan mounted at the coils in the back which does not work as well as a fan at the top pulling air out.

then you just push the wire down your drip hose--

I've mentioned this elsewhere but there are Norcold refers out there that do not have a condensate drip hose. I know because I have one. There is a drip tray but it has no outlet and there is no drain hose nor a place for one that I can find. Since the dinette seat with the converter under it is next to my Norcold, I just ran a wire out the side of the fridge and tapped into a 12V wire under the seat.

I ordered mine from E-Bay today. Course my TT is far from home so it might be a while before I hook it up. Hope I have a drain tube to run it down or I could be in trouble. Mine is 8 cubic feet. From years of TT camping, I had thought that waiting forever for your fridge to cool was just part of life. Any ways, I have a few quick questions about the install.
1. Should the TT be disconnected from shore power and or the battery while making the install?
2. The quote by tafiche mentions a "Most important thing is to have an inline fuse at the tap"...how do you accomplish this?
3. Will this void any warranty?
4. I run mine on propane to preserve that precious 30 amp power. Does it work when fridge is running on propane?

not sure if it would void any warranty but just installed mine (PC power supply fan) and have no probs. I ran mine through the frain tube and tapped into the 12v source off the control board in the back and had the power disconnected while doing so. There is another option for running the wires is through the same hole the little clip on runto to the fridge fins inside but is (for me) a bit more challenging to fish the wires. My fan is constantly on when pluged into shore power but never ran it off propane to see what it does. Im getting ready to install a on/off switch in the access panel but if you wanted to fuse it, just place it somewhere in the + side of the wire that goes to the fan (not insde fridge obviously). I can try to post up some pics of my setup if anyone wants to see it.

I bought the fan fridge from ebay but I am having trouble finding the constant hot wire in the fridge. I have a norcold N611. I sent and email to the seller but I haven't heard back. Does anyone have any better instructions?

He is usually pretty good about responding and will send you some instructions. On mine I pulled apart an Ethernet cable and used one of the wires. Fished it down the drain tube and then fished it down to the converter/fuse panel. Used one of the extra fuses to hook it up. Some folks just tap into the 12 volt going to the fridge. If you do this, I recommend using a 1 amp inline fuse. If you accidentally short out the fan, you lessen the risk of blowing the fridge fuse and taking them both out.

I did not install a switch on mine, since the fins act as the ground I just unclip it when not in use.

Since you are making no permanent modification, I don't see how this would void your warranty. If I was going in for service I would probably remove it so they don't try to blame it on the fan which is a highly unlikely cause.
