Flag pole question
I have seen a few of these home made poles at various military camp sites. I'm planning on making one, only a couple pieces of PVC pipe and a few fittings.
They stick inside a piece of bigger PVC hammered in the ground so they rotate with the wind. Anyone here have one or made one?

Yes, but we hammer in a 3' length of rebar and then put the PVC over it so it rotates in the wind. Many of the campgrouds we use, the ground is much to hard to pound in another piece of PVC with out it breaking.
I don't recall it I used 3/4" sch 40 or 1" Sch 40 PVC. Its just 4 lenghts of PVC, 2 end caps, 1 90* and 1 45*. Very easy to make.

Just be careful where you pound in that rebar.. may be a 220 VAC cable between pedestals down there someplace.
Just my thoughts,

Good point, hadn't given it much thought. We typically set it up right in front of our TT. Typically the site utilities are near the rear of the pad, so I hope the electrical circuit is run relatively straight across from pedestal to pedestal.
Been considering a hitch mounted flag pole holder so we could get a long telescoping pole to fly the flag over the TT.

We were camped once and a camper was making them and selling them like hotcakes for $25. They were quality made and had a very nice flag included.
I still carry and fly mine.

We do the same thing but we drop a big washer over the rebar, which slides to the ground, then slide the flag assembly on top of that which makes it rotate easier. Also attach a small set of wind chimes to the "balance" end.

The rebar is what I think I will do but the ones I saw were in another piece of PVC pipe that was stuck in the ground that was just a little bigger.

If you can - go to Lowes Home Improvement where they sale a round solid steel rod with one end already sharpened to a point. You'll find them right beside the rebar. You'll also need to purchase a large fender washer to slip over the steel rod. Place the washer over the rod so that lies on the ground and then place your flag assembly over the rod. This will aid in the rotation of the flag.
