Flashing Trailer Outside Lights
For those of you that have never done it, at Christmas time you can flash your trailer clearance lights by plugging a 2 prong turn signal flasher into your trailer end plug. The 12 volt power and clearance light contacts are next to each other on the plug end. Add some Christmas spirit to your campground. I guarantee you'll get some attention. (like: how did you do that??)

This is an eye catcher. I have also done it on the side of the road changing a tire, it makes you really noticeable.

Can you provide more detail as to plugging the flasher into the proper contacts??? Can it be any signal flasher or are they all the same? No particular make/model/year/??
Thanks

Is pretty easy. You just need to attach a wire to the power outlet and the running lights outlet. If you put a solid piece of wire they will come on steady. For the first evening in a large campground I turn my lights on solid while we take a walk. Makes it easier to find our camper if it starts getting dark while we are out. If you use any automotive type flasher (like for a turn signal or hazard lights) then it will flash.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe it is outlet #1 and outlet #6.

Any 2 prong flasher will work. There are both solid state ones ($13) and regular ones ($6). It's actually position 3 (running lights) and position 4 (battery charge line) which are the top 2 slots in your plug end. Have fun.

It is handy in an emergency if a EMS is in route. Better to have them looking for flashing lights than saying, " We're in the white camper".
Unless everyone else's are on too?

Here is the type of flasher I use and my thumb is over the two holes that you plug it into.. the ones on either side of the orientation bar..

Wonderful/informative! graphic there RB, did you design it yourself?
Now please explain to me the hair-brained numbering scheme. I would have expected they'd have gone clockwise in reference to the spline. I know, you didn't number it because an exp. tech. would have made it make sense.

Because if you are staring into the vehicle receptacle the numbers DO go clockwise.

I'm referring to the starting point not having a landmark. My guess is that the mating plug does have a landmark and they chose to continue that numbering to this plug.

OK, I tried it. And it didn't work for me. I even procured a second flasher (courtesies to AutoZone) with the same result.
Then I figured maybe I was looking at the pins wrong, so I plugged the flasher into each of the possible configs. Still no flashing lights. And no steady lights with a wire jumper placed in each avail side by side option.
Now I'm thinking I better plug up the TV and ensure the 5vr has working lights. They did on my last road-trip home, last month.
Camper battery full charge; so what am I doing wrong?

WRASCAL - The power for the FLASHER comes from your trailer BATTERY. PERHAPS you have a BATTERY DISCONNECT turned off...
BLADES 3-4 are the ones you need to either plug in a JUMPER WIRE or a two PRONG FLASHER.
Check out this link - may help locate the raised KEY that identifies where sockets 3 and 4 are located
http://rvbasics.com/techtips/emergen...er-lights.html
Not my drawing - came from the internet. There is also a company that sells a a nice plug that will plug into the blades on the 7-way trailer connector. RV GLOW PLUG I think it is...
This is great for emergency flashing lights especially when you have called the rescue squad to find your trailer sitting in the trailer park. .
Make sure you trailer battery is feeding socket #4. You can measure this with multimeter between #4 and #1 (or trailer frame ground) using a multimeter. Try a short piece of wire between sockets #3 and #4 first and if that lights them all up then your problem is with the flasher unit...
This isn't popular for some park neighbors and will run down your trailer battery if left on.

If I have a disconnect then I've not seen (nor toggled) it. And I did try all six possible pin positions - both with the second flasher AND a jumper wire.
As it was drizzling I didn't dig out my fluke, that'll be for a better day. Hopefully before the grandkids arrive and miss that light show.
Q? Does this RV GLOW PLUG add additional lights or just repeat the flasher?

Wrascal use the two spades across the key way. It works using the trailer battery, do you have 12V to the interior lights? I use a heavy duty flasher, it gives a fairly standard flash rate. If you use a light duty flasher, the lights will flash faster.
You may have an issue with your flasher. Grab a little wire, a spare bulb and make a small circuit using the tt battery.
Good luck.
