Flexible antenna - should we keep up or remove?

Hi all - my hubby and I are relatively new Jayco TT owners (got ours last August) and we've noticed that there is a flexible antenna on the roof that is continually up (it's definitely not the TV antenna) and tends to get caught by trees. We believe it's for the radio (which we rarely, if ever, use) and my husband is tempted to try to remove it so that it doesn't continue to sustain run-ins. My thought is that it's flexible BECAUSE the makers knew it was going to collide with low-hanging trees, and I'd rather keep it connected. Thoughts? Is it perhaps for sometching else entirely? Is it common to remove these antennas? Thanks in advance!

There's a screw at the base of the antenna mast just loosen it and lower the mast and retighten it. Then when you want to use the radio just put it back up. I think most people leave it up all the time.

Except for when we put our tt in inside winter storage, our metal radio antenna whip stays up the whole season, once I get it reinstalled. So your shorter rubber whip antenna should be fine.

Even if you hardly ever listen to the radio, do know a shorter antenna does not receive stations as well.

As mentioned, just loosen the screw in the base, and either remove or turn down. Just be careful it doesn't damage the rubber roof.

I've honestly never heard of any issues with radio antenna being ripped off by trees or anything else. In 14 seasons with 2 different hybrid trailers we've never had a problem. Keep in mind there are millions of trailers and motor homes out there with the same setup.

Just leave it on, you'll be fine.

We leave ours up until it is winterized and the cover goes on. It is mounted to a big spring so if you hit a branch or anything it just flips down.

We noticed that the new camper's TV antenna is the style where it just turns. There is no more raising it up and back down at the end of the trip which is nice.

My concern would be if you are bending your whip radio antenna, what is happening to the AC unit on top of the TT. Keep an eye on that also.

We have had our whip antenna up for 5 years and it is still there straight as an arrow.

The antenna has a flexible spring unit, so it can be hit as many times as you want, and it should not get damaged.

They are mounted on the roof. Being you DH did not know this, which tells me, you have not been doing your required roof maintenance. You should clean and inspect the roof twice a year. The caulking dries and cracks fairly quickly and leaks happen.

LOL! I honestly don't remember if mine is up or down! I think it's up because we use the radio quite frequently... Either way it's fine IMO.
