Fresh water tank? 46 gallons?

Camped at a place where I needed to fill the fresh water tank. Ran out of water after about 3 days. I filled it till water was coming out of the house near me and the axle, overflow I assume. Normal? Seems like 46 gallons would last longer. We've made it two nites before same place without running into issues.

No showers, just cooking, cleaning dishes and bathroom stuff

When was the 1st fill up?

If you filled at home and drove over any hills, up to 1/3 of the fresh water sloshed out of the overflow tubes. Known (and annoying) problem!

Filled up at campsite when we arrived. They had water supply, drove a mile from there to site.

Any hills? Braking? That'll slosh quite a bit. Even in under a mile.

Also, was the tank full? Filled until water flowed from the overflow tubes or just until the panel LED showed 'F'? The level indicator will show full even though there is plenty of air left in the tank.

--------------

I know how far 20 gallons went (previous trailer): Dishes for 6 meals, 2 'navy style' showers for me, 3/4 of a shower for her (water ran out and grey tank full).

We now have 50 gallons and she has improved her shower habits. Don't hit the limits in 5 days.

You likely only have a 40 gallon tank. Three days on that is about what we use. When a trailer mfgr tells you that they have a 46 gallon water capacity, they are including the 6 gallons in your water heater. The problem is that you can't get that last 6 gallons without water to push it out, so while you HAUL 46 gallons, you can only use 40.

I didn't check the gages after I filled it, I will next time. Was getting rushed by the co-pilot, no pressure at original fill station so had to find another one. only 10mph through campground after fill, few hills if any. Looks like the usage is somewhat normal and we reached our limit on it. Thanks both for the replies.

When you think about the average American household uses 100 gal per person per day, it makes you realize that 40gal is very little water. Granted when camping people don't use nearly as much as at home, but if two campers cut their at home water usage by 90%, that's still 10 gal per person per day. A couple using 40 gal in a weekend would not be remotely out of line.

Water conservation is a learned skill. Washing dishes and hand washing uses a lot of water. Washing hands, you have to get your hands wet, turn off the water, soap up, rinse off. Brushing the teeth, turn off the water. Dishes are tough for some. We use dish pans. each with no more than a couple inches of water. We will use a cup, to scope up water and rinse.

We have an open underbelly, with a flashlight you can manual checked the water level. Last two trips have been 5 nighters. Last one when we were done, we had 3/4 of a tank of water left. The trip before, the kid had a friend who was a camping rookie as they had never camped at all. We had about 5 gallons left.

You can do it, just have to be vigilant. Also what comes out of the FW tank, probably is going into the grey or black tank and when they fill up, its not as much fun.

We had all of 6 gallons to drain out of the hot water heater, so flip the heater off and run off the hot water heater for that last bit of H20
