Gear Weight

So I'm looking at the 26BH. It weighs about 4300 dry and maxes out at 7k. How much weight, on average, would you say campers gear weighs on a trailer this size? I'd like to think that I can get by with packing no more than 1200lbs. of crap.

Keep in mind that the 4300 weight changes when you add options. For reference my 2015 26BH (elite package, thermal package, and 15k BTU AC) weighs 4900 pounds.

Honestly, it doesn't seem like my options would have added up to 600 pounds.

My 26BH has been sold, but IIRC the actual ship weight with options was 5200lbs, about 600lbs more than the published weight.

Loaded for a trip (average 4 day trip) it weighed a bit over 6000lbs.

The other thing about 26BH, most of the storage is up front so I had what I considered to be a pretty heavy tongue weigh -- ~850lbs with dual Grp 24 batteries. Admittedly I didn't put a lot of effort to pack light and keep things out of the front pass through. With some effort, you could probably get that TW into the 750 range, but I doubt it would get much lower than that.

My 26bh elite with 2 6v batteries and 2 30lbs LP tanks was 4998lbs from factory. Fully loaded(no water) for 5 days(2 adults 2 toddlers)it was @ 6100 lbs with a tw of 700lbs(including WD hitch weight).

My 26BH was about #4800 from factory. Loaded about #5600 with #640 of that on the hitch. This included about a third of a tank of fresh water. This tank is fairly far forward on a 26BH. So the math would show about #700 stuff and #100 water.

Your #1200 for stuff probably a tad high

Always up for consideration is what you intend to tow it with.
The 26BH is a great starter trailer.

Welcome to the JOF, you will learn a lot here.

We have a bigger trailer but one day I took everything out of the trailer including the 2 30 pound propane tanks and the 2 batterys. Weighed everything with a bathroon scale. I mean everything, we have a little over 1200 pounds of stuff. The weight of the trailer out of the factory was 8225 pounds with all the stuff we put in minus the two 30 pound tanks we are almost 9500 pounds. You will be very surprised at how fast the weight adds up. The weight does not include clothes or the stuff in fridge. so we are over 9500 pounds.

TV has been upgraded to a Silverado 2500HD so the weight thing with our W Hawk isn't an issue for us. Still think it is a good idea at the beginning of each camping season to take an inventory of your "stuff" and purge anything that isn't necessary. I try to give stuff the "use" test. Did I use the item last year? Its amazing how quickly the stuff in your storage, drawers, cabinets, etc can grow. We tend to add stuff for each trip. A tool here and there, extra electrical cords, hoses, bedding, kitchen gadgets, etc. When we got our new WH in 2014 I removed 35lbs of redundant tools and maintenance items.

All great info. thanks. Let me ask you guys this. The trailer comes with 30lb. tanks. The dealer said that they can be hard to switch out and instead have to be FILLED somewhere which may be hard to do while out camping. Dealer recommended going with the smaller 20lb. tanks instead as they would be easier to exchange on the road. Any truth to that? I'll have a 1/2 ton truck so maybe I'll go with the 20s just to save a little weight if nothing else.

Personally I would keep the 30# tanks. I like having the extra capacity. If you are going to change them don't let the dealer make a straight swap for them, 30# tanks are about twice as valuable as 20# tanks.

It is very easy to get tanks filled. I would not suggest tank exchanges because A) you don't know how the tanks where treated prior to you getting them and B) they don't will to full capacity and charge like they are at capacity.

If 20# vs 30# tanks is going to make much of a difference in TW that it would matter in you TT/TV combination then I would suggest you are pushing it to close to the limits.

Curious are these scale weights?

To me an 11.5% tongue weight seems pretty light for a trailer with 130 LBS of GC2 6 Batteries on the tongue.

From what I have seen the current year "elite" package is very similar (if not exactly the same) to my 2012 26BH which also had the elite packs + technology package. Maybe some materials have been changed that allowed them to build them at lower weights between '12 and '15 -- it certainly seems folks with '14 and '15 MY are referencing lower weights and much lower tongue weights than I experienced. Wonder if the axle was moved forward a little making a lower TW too. We did pack a lot in the front pass -- maybe I just carry a lot more junk then everyone else.
