general roof care

I have read and read here about roof care,so much so I think I have become confused. My 2012 TT is stored near the beach. That means salt air and lots of sun. I have read that the roof should be cleaned with all sorts of different products. I believe from reading that the preferred products are either dawn dish detergent, or spic and span. Is this correct? Since the TT is stored where it is, should I apply some sort of protectant? Something to help deter the salt air and the UV rays? If so, what is probably the best to use? I know it says not to use products that contain petroleum distallites and acetone, but labels sometimes refer to those items in a different way. Or perhaps just a good cleaning is all that is needed. Your views please. Oh yes, and what should I clean the vent covers and AC cover with, and any protection for that?

I just use a deluted mixture of simple green/ car wash soap and a soft brissel brush. cleans up nice but you will (or should) use some sore of rubber roof protectant spray afterwards. seen several TTs stored over here with tarps over the top also.

Spic and span with an auto soft bristle brush I have found to work best. Some people use protect all after but I just keep mine clean. Up there 4 X a year doing so.

I have used Spic and Span in the past.

Last few years I've used Clorox Cleanup and a stiff scrub brush. Copious rinse.

You can use 303 Protectant, but not necessary. EPDM roofing is very tough and long lasting.

I suggest you simply check the manual and clean according to the manufacturers directions. My TPO roof gets cleaned with Spic and Span as instructed by the manufacturer, Alpha Systems.

Can you see mine from there? Someone told me that placing a tarp over the roof was not a good idea. They said the wind would cause it to rub against the roof, pre-maturely causing wear. Any one else heard anything such as this?

I use Protect All cleaner and treatment, as Alpha Systems recommends. Seems to work fine, with no problems. As for the tarp, I would agree that you would get a lot of rubbing if there was a lot of wind. Same principle as a buddy of mine found out after he strapped a felt-lined tarp over his newly painted 1931 Ford Model A and hauled it down the road on a trailer. When he got to where he was going, the tarp had buffed all the paint off the outside of all 4 fenders. Learned his lesson the hard way. The rubbing on your roof would probably remove the exterior finish wherever it rubbed. JMHO.
