Hard Start capacitor Question/s
Howdy! Can anyone tell me if new Air Conditioners put in 2015 trailers have a hard start capacitor in them?
I may be going crazy but I thought I read somewhere that the "new" AC's coming out today are easier to start than previous AC's.
I am just debating about having the dealer add a hard start capacitor before I take possession. Or is this something I can truely do on my own as I have seen the capacitor's on line for around $20-$30...
Advice would be great...

Not sure if the newer ones have some new type bleed/off expansion valve or electronics that prevent start up with high head pressure. If either is true you don't need a start Cap.

They have a start capacitor and you can replace with a hard start one. Mine burned out on my 15000 BTU unit on my 2012 because of to low voltage in one of the camp grounds. Took several months to show up but I remembered that RV park because of elect problems I had there. They had to jump some 50 amp breakers together to get me power. I didn't think much about it then...but I will from now own.

Ok, I am seeing that the hard start capacitors are not that expensive. I sent an email to the dealer to see what they would charge.
A hard start capacitor should Not void any warranty should it?
Thanks

I would not change anything until necessary. Don't fix it if it's not broke. Just me.

It's just an electrical connection. Easy to replace. Remove the upper cover and pretty easy to get to if to ever needed. My burned one was my first in around 40 years.

x2 on if it ain't broke don't fix it. I am able to start and run both my ac units when using my 4k generator so I'm thinking the newer ac units don't have a hard start capacitor.

They don't have a hard start but a factory normal. A capacitor is needed to start the compressor. RV AC's are engineered to run on low volts at times as they know it's gonna happen.

Not sure adding a hard start capacitor will have much impact on being able to boondock. You will still need a generator to run the AC, with or without a hard start cap a 2000 watt generator will NOT run your AC. You will require 3000 watt or dual 2000 watts to run AC. Maybe a Hardstart will make a Yamaha 2400 watt get set work more frequently.

This leads exactly to my next question and going to hijack my own thread.
So what are the opinions on generators. If I had the cash it would be two honda or two yamaha s. So here goes what are the thoughts on the champion 3100 or two of the little champion inverters or a single yamaha ef2400. To me the two smaller champions have more running watts. I have my sights on a good used yamaha 2400 and have read good reports on the champ 3100.
Let me have it I've read a million different forums on this...

It's a personal preference. But I would go with Honda or Yamaha.
I have two 2000is Hondas. At around 50 pounds each I can move them with no problems. Use one when don't need Ac and two hooked together for AC. I run a outboard gas tank with hooked to both. Will run 15-24 hours on one tank. That's less than $14 day at current prices.
