Hello from Central Florida

Dw and I just bought a new (to us) 2005 RKS. This is our first TT as we are moving up from tent camping. After reading the posts on this forum I just wanted to say thank you for all the information I found here. I have learned so much. Of course you have cost me a lot of money with all your "recommendations" of equipment I need that I would never have thought of.

I do have one question though. When it comes to water hoses several folks have said they bought one long hose and cut it into several shorter hoses of different lengths. What kind of ends are you using? All the metal ones that I find are not labeled as being safe for drinking water and many contain lead. Are you using plastic or something else?

Thanks again and keep up the good work,

Brian

I just carry 2 25' hoses and 1 has always been enough(so far).

Tunce,

Yea that would probably be the way to go had I done the hose end research PRIOR to buying the 50' hose. LOL

My plan is to cut into three hoses haven't decided on exact lengths yet but something like 30,15, and 5.

Check Walmart, as I found them to have the best price on hoses, and get 2 -25 ft, as others have mentioned.

I run a 2' from the city water supply to my sediment filter, then a 25' to the camper's city water inlet, unless we're staying long term. Then another 2'er from outlet side of filter #1 to the inlet side of the water softener, thence to the 25'er and into the camper.

"Thence."

Thank you all for the replies. It appears red horse may be right might just be better to buy new hose(s). Then again I just noticed that my 90 degree elbow which is recommended for RV use contains lead and other cancer causing materials, so I may be over thinkng it.

Thanks again,
Brian

Congratulations on the "new-to-you" trailer, and welcome to The Forum! I, also, have two 25'ers. But since you already have the 50, go ahead and cut it up. The fittings aren't that expensive - just make sure they're food grade. The lengths you suggested sound good to me. As an alternative, you could get one 25'er, then cut your 50 down to two 25'ers, wrap some black electrical tape around each end of one (as a reminder), and use it for your black tank flush hose. At least it won't go to waste.

(Oh! I guess if you use it for you black tank flush, it will go to "waste".)

Brownie,
That's the problem I'm having finding food grade hose fittings at a reasonable price. Can you recommend a place to get them?

Thank you

X2. Me and most of my friends grew up drinking water out of the garden hose that was laying on the ground. We needed something to wash down the lead paint chips we munched on. Then we'd jump on our bikes and ride all around all summer without $500 worth of safety equipment. Of course, that was before the law schools dumped 6 jillion lawyers on us and assigned one to every ambulance and pharmacy in the country.

Ah, lead, I could taste it now...nothing like it! Memories of leaded gas and carburetors...those were the days! Our kids will never understand!

Well I wandered down to the local big box "hardware" store today and after about an hour of looking with very little help from the staff I managed to find a lead free Y and 90 degree attachment, I was also able to find the female end for repairing a hose, but no male end. Go figure! In the end it didn't really matter because they were about $7 each so it will be less expensive to return my 50' hose and buy a couple of shorter hoses.

I also picked up a couple battery operated LED lights for the cargo bays from camping world and got a couple of spare door keys from the local locksmith for $4 each, so overall a pretty good day. 8)

Thanks again for all the help,

Hoamy
