Does the control panel have a fuse or breaker for the heater?

What make is the furnace? Atwood?

Is the fan operating and blowing warm air through all the registers or do you just feel warm air as it's coming out via convection?

Since it appears that the gas is coming on and it's getting warm, my initial guess would be the fan isn't running properly which is causing the furnace to overheat and shut down.

I would also check the exhaust pipe. They have a sail switch which will activate and shut down if the pipe is partially blocked or parked too close to a wall or hedge.

My bet is on bugs or spider webs blocking the sail and or air flow.
This is pretty common.

The sail switch is a common part that goes out. If you have no blockage and good airflow, that is a good bet. Check my sig for some Atwood service manuals. I know yours is older, but prob sill relevant info.

Let us know what you find.

Do you have any manual(s) for your Atwood furnace? Of no, then I would suggest determining the model of furnace you have and then click here. This will take you to Atwood's website and you can see if there are installation manuals available for your furnace. In the manual, there will be a parts breakdown and you can see where the sail is located.

If you can't find anything on Atwood's website, Don't give up. Try googling the make (Atwood) along with the model name. You might hit on a site that has information on your problem and possibly a manual or documentation you can view/download. You might even find something on troubleshooting.

Good luck!

I have actually not broken into mine, but you do have to do some disassembly. The switch activates when there is air flowing through the unit. If the airflow is blocked or something happens to the fan, it will shut off the flow of gas so it is part of the safety system.

It could be any number of things though - blocked vents, blocked exhaust, bad limit switch, bad sail, etc.

I would highly recommend you take a look at the service manual. It has a sequence of operation that can help you determine at what point the problem is taking place and it also has a troubleshooting guide to help steer you in the right direction.

Mine was doing something similar, it would fire for about 10 seconds then cut out for abut a minute or so and then fire again. Mine does not cut out though after 3 cycles. Fortunately it is still under warranty and was go back in for another warranty issue anyway.
I'll post the outcome when I get it back next week.
