Help with wall hangings!
We just purchased our new to us camper last month. (A 2002 Jayco Eagle 304bh) It was all winterized for us and now we have to wait till spring to use it. This will be the hard part for me. We are newbies because this is our 1st camper so we know nothing. Have done a lot of reading and this forum has been very helpful. I came upon one post that had all her decorating done and it looked absolutely awesome. I have been looking for things that are light weight but also that will match the camper to my personality. I even gave her a name. OK so I maybe a little weird. Anyway here is my question. How do most of you put things on your walls. Nails, screws, command strips. Will I hit anything behind the walls or is there dead space? Any help and ideas are welcome.
Thanks
David, Darla, Dawson, Dessa and the new addition Daphne the camper.

3M Command hooks and strips. That way there aren't holes left behind if/when you decide to redecorate.
This is what we'll be doing with our new fifth wheel, that we can't get into until spring either so we feel your pain!

3M Command Hooks. You can get them for nearly any weight load you want. No holes, no fuss. And we winterized last week. Boo. 17 more weeks till spring break, and we'll be back out.

We just use short little nails to hang things. Small Molly Screws work when the little nails no longer hold. We bought our trailer to use and will let the next owner discover the tiny holes.

I use the 3M command strips and silicone caulk to hang most things. My hubby did have to use nails or screw (not sure which) to hang my towel holder in the bathroom. He placed them in the studs. It was just too heavy to hang otherwise.

3M command hooks and strips seem to be what most recommend, But I recently came across the 3M velcro strips and find them to work awesome. If your sticking to any of the wood in the trailer the 3m strips won't stick to it unless you give the wood a light sand to remove some finish.

Help with wall hangings!
I have found that just wiping the area with denatured alcohol allows the Command Strips to stick fine and they still remove easily.

I use a little goof off on the wood to ensure the command hook to stick. I tried rubbing alcohol but it did not work.

Does the Goof Off damage the wood in any way?

3M command hooks and strips work very well. I just had to pull off several and not one issue in removal. I also used a strip on the bottom as well of any hanging item. This keeps them secure during travel. I also used some picture hangers for clocks which I felt were permanent.
Some things you just have to secure another way and if you use anything that goes into your walls make completely sure that it is a small screw or nail that will not go through the other side. You can get an idea on a door jamb of how much you can tolerate. I would keep it at 1" penetration max unless you can confirm and need otherwise.
As for filling of holes you can use a stain marker to fill in any unsightly holes. i.e. Minwax wax stain pencils. My walls were tan and this worked great on touch ups.

It depends on the finish. It is a strong product and if used incorrectly or on certain finishes can damage it. Most of the door trim in our units are pressed laminates and of all different varieties. The cabinet doors, drawer fronts, rails, stiles are real wood, but the large side panels are luan laminates, so you really need to confirm what your cleaning first and test the right material.
Do not assume that if it worked on one it will have the same effect on the others.

Another vote for Command Hooks. You can get them in virtually any size, shape and finish. I don't care as much about what the next owner has to deal with as much as I don't want to put holes in my walls. RV design sometimes defies logic for me, so I'm always afraid of hitting something behind the walls, this way I don't have to worry about it.

I use two fastening systems for each item I hang:
- Nails or screws to hang the item.
- Velcro at the bottom to prevent movement.
This method secures the item to the wall and makes its removal easy- just pull out on the bottom to free the Velcro, then lift the object up off the nail/screw.

I hadn't even thought about velcro on the bottoms. We have always taken things down.
