Honda 2000 started my 15K AC

Was out at my Octane putting in a new digital thermostat yesterday and I took one of my Honda 2000s with me to test it.

Afterwards I tried the 15K AC and it started and ran with no problems.

I was surprised it even started the unit.

There have been reports of them being able to run an a/c. My friend has one of the new harbor freight inverter gens and it runs his 13k a/c.
The question is will it do it on a humid 90 degree day with it cycling on and off.
a 2000watt will also do it if you install a hard start capacitator.

I'm sure weather and altitude will definitely affect it. Not sure if I have a hard start capacitor. This is a 2017 Octane 222.

I have two Hondas so I'm not planning on just using one on the AC.

It was just surprising to me that one would start and run it.

I have read that they may start with a small generator, but the life of the A/C can be shortened by the lack of power.

Someone I used to know on another RV forum did some extensive testing running his 13.5k A/C unit from his Honda 2000 generator. Here's a link to the conversation. White the generator handled the load the A/C put on it just fine, there was an alarming drop in voltage when the compressor started up, so much so he recommended against it.

Mind you, that was a number of years ago; I imagine newer A/C units are much more efficient.

I have a 2016 Jayco. I went to have a hard start capacitor installed on my Coleman 15k. When the Dealer called Coleman to order the part they told him that all Coleman Maxis AC now ship with the equivalent of a Hard start capacitors.
I haven't bought my generator yet so I don't know how it will perform. But if you think about it, it makes sense. Capacitors are cheap. And more and more people are using Generators. And even on shore power, an AC will last longer with more start capacitance.

So that may be why some members with newer units are finding that their AC will run on a 2000i.

My Yamaha 2400 runs my A/c, but have to make sure the hot water heater isn't on electric mode, if it kicks on, it will overload the gen.

I have a 2017 Eagle 291 with the 15,000 Colman max, my Honda 2000 runs it just fine, I can't run anything else, but no problem with running just the AC.
