Good point. the gas port looks like no flame marks either.

I did not know you could run the electric and propane on the water tank at the same time!

If your water heater is dual fuel (Propane/Electric), you can run one or both modes. The advantage of using both modes, is a faster recovery time.

Hot water heater electrical fire

The first 2 fifth wheels I had came with dual use hwh
but they could not be run with both on at the same time. Our 2011 had the feature. With just 2 we don't miss the feature.

Have to agree here too as the thermal cut-off is still intact as well. If the fire came from the burner tube it would have taken out [melted] the thermal cut-off [fusible link] and immediately shut down the gas valve.

Just got the trailer back from the dealership. Water Heater covered at no cost. Glad that's over!

I realize this is an old thread, but this just happen to our Jayco last night. My wife is pissed, and I can't blame her. This is the 3rd major issue our trailer has had in the few months we've owned it, first was the slide out pulled all of our black/gray tank signal wires out, second was the diamond plate falling off the front of the trailer, and now this.

Eazier, how long did it take for your dealer to get this repaired?

Sorry to hear that man! We brought it to our dealer and they turned it around in a couple days. They installed a new motherboard (because it melted) and we only use LP now. Never had an issue since...

Mud dobbers are notorious for building those mud nests in that exhaust tube. Wasps as well. If you read about fires in furnaces and water heaters those culprits account for a lot of fires. Hence the wasp screens. I put them over all my exhaust vents to keep the flying pests out. A big wasp nest or mud dobbers nest can completely close the exhaust vent completely causing a potential fire.

I always use both electric and gas when taking showers. Pretty much unlimited hot water. Turn gas off when done with shower. Did this for last 30 years with attwood and suburban water heaters.
