Hot water too hot

I have an Atwood water heater in my 28DSBH and the hot water is too hot. I have looked everywhere for an adjustment to the temperature and cannot find it - on the tank under the bunk bed and on the back at the circuit board of the igniter. Help! Anyone know where this might be located? Thanks.

Some people have mentioned that they turn the hot water bypass valve half way to let more cold bypass the heater and bleed into the hot water line. This adds cold water to the hot water line (after the heater) to bring the temp down. I haven't done this, but it sounds like it should work. Trial and error to get the temp you want, though.

Try just pilot

We don't have a Jayco yet but hoping to soon. In our 1990 Fleetwood my husband just lights the pilot light and it keeps the water hot enough for dishwashing, etc. We use the shower house for bathing so don't use a lot of hot water. Hope this helps.

IIRC you can get a lower temp thermostat and switch them.

the temperature was adjustable on the first TT (X23B). There was a blue handle (disk) on the front of the control valve. It was gas only.
The gas-electric on the newer 5th is not adjustable.

We keep our water heater off until 15 min before showers. We've always had plenty hot water left over for the rest of the time between showers. Saves tons if on gas. Saves wear and tear if on elect.

My Atwood has a set temp control that is too hot also. I just heat it up, then turn off gas/elect, and it stays hot several hours. New ones have a igniter, so pilot lite is no help. Atwood sells a temp adjust control, and it seems cheap and simple to install.

I have heard of people making some mod to allow adjustment but can't remember the details. It is not a stock option.
Could be an adjustable element.

If the water is warmer, it will reduce the capacity of hot water greatly.

edit: Hitch pin has already id'd it.

When I installed the Adjustable Thermostat, I had it set at about 118*F, my wife and I take a shower every day, one right after the other, and we never ran out of hot water.

If the water is hotter you add more cold water to get the desired temperature. Makes the small amount of hot water in a RV hot water tank last longer.

The bad thing with the water being so hot is, it don't take it very long to burn a small kids tender hands.

I can see that being a problem for those with toddlers.

Lots of real hot water in a trailer is a good thing. 6 gallons isn't a whole lot.
We adjust shower by turning on hot all the way and then mixing in the cold to get the desired temperature.
