How's your towing gas mileage?

We're planning some long trips and I am curious how everyone's towing gas mileage compares to when they're not towing.

My Sequoia not towing gets about 13.6 L/100km, 17.3 MPG (US), or 20.8 MPG (UK).

In two weeks when I pick up our new 26BH I'll update with my towing numbers.

I average approx 9mpg towing a near 9000lb TT with a Silverado 3500HD. TV and TT are in sig. I doubt very much that you will get anything better with your setup.

I average 9.2 mpg towing about 9200lb with my F250 gas. Seems pretty close to what I hear everywhere.

Yup on the 9's. Our first set-up was a 4500# HTT that we pulled with an '03 Expedition 5.4 gasser. Low mpg range was in the 8's, high in the mid-9's. Never saw 10, even on the best day. Never pulled thru the mountains either. Hills in AR was 'bout it.

You can expect anywhere between 8 - 12 mpg. Most of us average closer to 10. That's what I get, 10 mpg. Never fret about the mileage, it's simple physics. You are taking a box and dragging it into the wind at high speed. Lots of resistance.

That said it is good to monitor mileage for one reason. If you find your baseline and your mileage goes down, something is wrong and needs attention

We have the same TV as you. Not sure what year you have, ours is a 2006. We get between 9-11 mpg when towing. I usually keep the speed under 60mph for safety, but that also helps with the mileage. Our Sequoia is a pig on gas when not towing, getting between 12-15 mpg. Of course my heavy foot doesn't help.

Ours is a 2003. For the sake of gas mileage I usually drive the speed limit. This saves me about 25% on gas compared to driving 20km/h (13mph) over the speed limit like I used to.

I get 22-23 mpg in my Denali without a tow and then 9 mpg for the same run with the camper behind me. I run 5-6 mph over, never any more.

With the last camper (25BHS) and my last Suburban, I would also get 9 mpg when towing.

We just did 3000 miles and found that playing with speed made a huge difference 95-105 km/h we got between 19-21l/100 vs. 105-115 km/h 23-25l/100. A safe calculation is 10mpg or 23l/100 makes for easy figuring. Anything better is a savings. We paid anywhere from 0.48-0.62 a liter

Gear ratio plays a big part in your gas mileage. If you have an fuel economy type gear ratio, your towing mileage will suffer along with towing performance. You actually get a little better gas mileage with a 3:7X (about the normal towing ratio) recommended towing ratio. The difference could be 1 - 2 mpg. Nothing to lose sleep over.

I'm assuming you were travelling in the US to get that low of a price/liter?

I get 10 l/100km (23.5 mpg) steady state highway, US cruising 70-72 mph no TT
I get 24 l/100km (9.8 mpg) steady state highway, cruising 60-65 mph with TT

8-9 mpg towing the trailer. 12-14 city, daily driving. Best results when using a premium grade fuel.

You and I have almost the same set up. The only exception on the rig is mines a 350. Very nice setup.
