Well, certainly didn't intend to kick off this much of a debate on the topic but really appreciate all the comments and inputs. My hunch here is that even if the idea is reasonable (which I think it is), the actual work of wiring in some sort of push button igniter - routing the wire safely, can it take the heat of the oven, getting it in just the right position by the pilot, pulling the oven out to do the work, finding a way to get the wire into the oven, etc, etc likely far outweighs the hassle of just getting down and lighting the pilot when needed. I do plan to look and see if they sell or make the oven with the option but it was not installed on mine.
