Indiana Dunes - July 4th

We are planning on going to the dunes for July 4th, on Thursday July 2nd we plan to arrive in the evening.

They have 63 RV sites and its first come first serve. I am concerned about getting there and no spots being available. I called and they said if we get there early enough on Thurs or Fri we will be OK but there are other sites around if they are booked.

Anyone have experience going to the dunes and recommendations?

Are you planning to stay in Indiana Dunes State Park? If so you will be hard pressed to get a site in a walk up scenario. We went a couple of years ago and it was full nearly all week. If you are staying in another campground, you may be okay. You say they have 63 rv sites. I am certain the state park has more than that, but it has been a couple of years since we were there. We have been to Indiana Dunes three or four times and it was full every time.

We live near there. The places at the Indiana Dunes are hard to get, especially on a busy summer weekend. In fact, we've never had any success getting a reserved spot. We have never tried to just show up and hope for the best. You have some other options. If you want Lake MI camping, there is Warren Dunes about 30 miles further away. There are other MI campgrounds a little further North. There is a nice campground south of Michigan City and you could drive a few miles to spend days at the park.
