I just ran a heating duct into that space and it stays toasty warm. Keeps the water and soft drinks thawed out too.

Why wouldn't you just put the electric blanket on top of you like its supposed to be? Wouldn't it create the desired effect?

We have a heated mattress cover that goes underneath the bedsheet. When its cold, we turn it on for about 5 minutes before we get into bed. The bed is nice and toasty when we get in, and proper blankets allow us to maintain that heat throughout the night.
