Insulating under bed/front compartment
My TT has the queen bed up front that lifts up for the storage underneath. However it lets it a good amount of cold air during these cold camping trips I have been going on.If you look from the front compartment under the bed there is a 1'' 1/2 gap where the aire goes right under the bed,now it is like that cause the gas struts for lifting the bed up and down, but my question is has anyone done any type of insulating under there to help keep the cold out. I was gonna try to use pink fiberglass as you would do for installing a new door and staple it underneath the gap to help but figured id ask if anyone has better ideas, And the sides of the bed itself doesn't seal to good, only idea I came up with was to use the pink foam insulation you put down when building new wall's, sill seal.Im sure my ideas could work but if theres better ones id try them if they work better

I was going to try the same, but with a high density foam panel for under the bed and then try using some door jam weather striping to seal around the edges of the bed/storage joints.

That's what I am planning with my 28BHS. One of the other active members on here has done this with his trailer and I remember seeing pictures of it on here. I'll probably use 1 or 2 inch thick foam insulation and spray adhesive to secure it to the plywood. You can also add extra plywood to close that gap between the bed and the night tables, too.

Here`s what Crabman did several years ago:
My trailer came with the partition in the front pass through under the bed that you see in the pic. But it was unfinished. So I filled it in with 3/4 block insulation and then covered it with luan. There is another under bed storage area behind the partition. I wanted to keep the bed and bedroom a bit warmer for those cold Fall camping trips. But there is still a gap between the mattress and the nightstand where cold air can enter. I can close that off with a small towel or such. You can see I also insulated the bottom of the bed, but still have not finished that off with luan yet.

We did the same thing to our 2010 bumper pull. Same thing, same reason. Block foam and luan. Plan to do the Jayco, but it's low on the list right now.

I like the idea of insulating with foam under the entire bed also.I might have to wait til spring to do fixes as it's to cold now and adhesives might not stick to well, but at least I know what I can do. Thanks to all

Between the mattress and plywood you can use some bubble aluminum foil what is used to insulate around water heaters. I used it also when tenting under a air mattress at freezing temps. It creates a insulation barrier. It also saves the mattress from rubbing on the plywood.

That bubble aluminum backed insulation is almost as good as duct tape. So many uses. We keep a huge roll in our shop and it always gets used for something. Mainly RV windows, and stuff like ALJO mentioned.

Dave, I picked some up in Oregon at an Ace Hahdware store. I'll check here in Bellingham at Ace, Lowes & Home Depot if you like. You'll be driving right past Lowes front door. Easy off easy on location.

I was actually just thinking about this last weekend. We took our first winter camping trip to the Thousand Trails in Leavenworth, Washington. It got down to 11 degrees. The campground was literally a sheet of ice.

I insulated both the underside of the bed and the front & back walls of my pass-thru with the pink Styrofoam insulation (1-1/2" thick), that I glued in place with the Liquid Nails designed for use on Styrofoam. Unlike Crabman, I didn't top it off with Luanne plywood. Keep in mind, when you raise the bed platform, the countertop overhang on your night stands will rip the Styrofoam off, if you extend the Styrofoam sideways to fill the gaps. However, the memory foam mattress topper I bought is wide enough to fill the gaps. Since I put the topper under the mattress (like a box spring), the memory foam fills those gaps and keeps out any cold air.

I also bought a memory foam mattress that fills gap on the sides pretty good,do you have pics of install under the bed

When we got our trailer there were open spaces on each side of the bed. So I made 2 L-brackets and screwed them into the walls and then put foam on the top. So when the bed comes down the bed rest on the L-brackets and stops the air from coming in from the front storage area.

No pics; I just laid the memory foam on the plywood platform, then laid the mattress on top of the memory foam.

I know I am late to this conversation, but maybe it will help someone? I used a swimming pool noodle, with a long horizontal slice in it, so it would "clip" over the wood. I cut it in sections to fit between the supports. Worked great!!

A step I took to keep DW warm was to cut to fit a piece of rigid insulation board and put it in the large window that is right over our heads when we're in bed. It's now the warmest spot on that wall. We have the dual pane windows, so I make sure to not have that window on the sunny side with the insulation in it.

I've thought about putting an electric blanket between the mattress and the plywood platform.

That sounds dangerous to me.
