Intermittent water pump clacking

Second trip with our Jay Flight and having some sort of water pump issue. About 20% of the time when I open a faucet, after a few seconds of normal operation, the pump starts clacking really loud. I thought RV water pumps were impeller type but this sounds like a metal piston banging against the top of the cylinder, if it has one, in very rapid fashion. It started happening at the tail end of our first trip two weekends ago. Our dealer is now booking service visits for the middle of August so I'd like to figure out what's happening and if I can fix it.

If this were my issue, the first thing I'd do is to look at the pump when it is in operation and making the noise. Maybe the problem solution will be obvious. Also, I'd check the mounting of the pump - maybe the pump itself is loose and sometimes rattles against something else.

I have seen the plumbing lines vibrate and smack things. When they do this it sounds like what you are describing. I went through my camper and zip tied the lines to eliminate the problem areas and have never had another issue.

RV water pumps are diaphragm pumps so they will vibrate and transmit that vibration down the line. Like Hiker said, it could be a loose pump or it like Certified said it could be a line somewhere that's close to a wall or floor and vibrating against it.
