Intermittently functioning Brakes

We recently had a problem with the brakes functioning intermittently on our 2012 Jayco 24T travel trailer. We went to a large RV repair company that services all brands of RVs. When I told my problem to the Service Manager he responded that this is a very common problem with Jayco trailers that have the brake wires inside the tubular axles. The wires rub around and wear the insulation off resulting in intermittent functioning. I was present when the wires were removed and saw that the insulation was missing in a couple of areas. New double insulated wires were installed outside of the axle and we have had perfect operation since.
This is a safety issue because the brakes do not work when a short occurs and the lack of brakes is very unpredictable.

Thanks 2220pacer for sharing that. I'm going to be installing new drums and brake assemblies next week and have been wondering if the wiring needs upgrading too. Replacing the through-axle wire seems like a great idea. I'm going to do it.
